LINGUINI WITH HOT SAUSAGE AND PECAN PIE WITH WHIPPED CREAM

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, thanks to you I had a perfectly marvelous birthday. Last night, Vinnie “Shaft, baby, Shaft” Cirilli and his girl friend Stephanie, took me to the Eclectic Cafe in NoHo California. Last time I was in NoHo it was called North Hollywood – I used to call it No Hollywood. In any case, I enjoyed the Eclectic Cafe very much – good service, good food, good Diet Cokes. I was a bit disappointed that there were no cheese slices or ham chunks on the menu (but then I’d already had my fill of same), but the linguini with hot sausage (not very hot) was most excellent, as was the Caesar Salad and the warm pecan pie with three count them three dollops of whipped cream. I always feel guilty eating whipped cream, because frankly what the hell did the cream do that was so bad that it had to be whipped? In any case, it was a lovely evening. When I got home, I watched half of Seperate Tables, a nice movie with Deborah Kerr, David Niven, Gladys Cooper, Burt Lancaster, Rita Hayworth and Wendy Hiller. I’ll watch the rest of it this afternoon.

This morning I will be… Oops (spoo, spelled backwards), I mustn’t tell you what I will be doing this morning, not in this section – no, we all must go through our daily ritual now – on the count of three…
Wait a minute – if there’s a Count of Three is there an Earl of Two or a Duke of Four? We know there’s a Duke of Earl, but is there a Lord of Eight? Stop me, stop me… Now, on the count of three, let’s all push the Unseemly Button below. One, two, three

How many of you clicked before the “three”? So, this morning I will be brunching with the Geissmans. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, my brilliant guitarist Grant Geissman, and his lovely wife Lydia and his cute little daughter Greer are taking me for a post-birthday brunch. They’re calling it Bruce’s Birthday Brunch. We’re going to the Cheescake Factory, where I do hope they have some breakfast foods, because it is simply too early to eat my usual Cheescake Factory dish of Spicy Cashew Chicken, a chicken dish which is spicy and has cashews in it, for those who were wondering. So, I must leave quite soon.

Don’t forget, tomorrow there will be a brand spanking new The Broadway Radio Show up for you to listen to – this week’s episode features lots of showtunes from all the currently playing shows in New York, New York, from downtown to uptown, all hosted by our very own Mr. Donald Feltham.

Thanks to everyone who sent such swelegant birthday wishes yesterday, and thank you for those who have already seen fit to use the Unseemly Donation Button – soon we’ll be able to implement new and exciting features thanks to your chunks of change.

One gift I got yesterday was some chocolate licorice. Oh, how I love chocolate licorice, but I must dole it out in small servings because if I don’t dole it out in small servings I shall eat the whole pound at once and then I will be unseemly and my head will explode like in the movie Scanners. I have also become obsessed with Chex Mix. I don’t know why really, since it’s quite a melange of stupid food bits, but some how the melange works and I find it very tasty indeed, although I must dole it out in small servings, otherwise I go through a whole bag in five minutes and then my head feels like it will explode, like in that movie Scanners. I like that movie Scanners, which, by the way, has exploding heads. I like any movie with exploding heads. I like any movie where the villain’s head explodes, too. I think all villainous people’s heads should explode, don’t you, dear readers? That’s a fine movie comeuppance, an exploding head is, in my opinion. Scanners is a film of David Cronenberg, who I think is a very interesting director. I especially like his wacky early films like They Came From Within (aka Shivers), The Brood (very strange indeed), Scanners, and to a lesser extent Videodrome. I feel that Mr. Cronenberg’s greatest thus far is still The Dead Zone, from the Stephen King book. That’s just a brilliant film, and it features, at least to my mind, Chris Walken’s finest performance. I also really like Mr. Cronenberg’s take on The Fly, and I’m very fond of his very strange Dead Ringers. I hate Naked Lunch, but enjoyed eXistenZ.

Well, I must dress and be off to Bruce’s Birthday Brunch, starring me. Don’t forget to tell everyone you know in the whole wide world to come visit us at haineshisway.com and don’t forget the new radio show tomorrow.
