ONLY TIME WILL TELL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was another lively and sparkling Unseemly Live Chat last night – I’ve begun to really look forward to these each week. Now, I must talk a bit about what happened last night: We had two visitors who had never been with us before at the chat, nor did any of us recognize their usernames. Were they lurkers just paying a visit to the chat, were they something else – well, this was one of the dangers of starting this type of chatroom (as opposed to the AOL kind) – pretty much anyone can wander in for any reason. I know all of you are protective of me and I find that wonderful and comforting and I’m very appreciative – but, I think we’re just going to have to let newbies in and if they participate, great, if they’re their to spy, who cares – we’ll just go about our happy business and talk about whatever we feel like. I felt that one of the two last night seemed a bit antagonistic in certain responses, but that may just be me, and they may simply have not felt comfortable or that we were unduly jumping on them (I don’t think we were, though). They also said certain things privately to one of our dear readers that would lead me to believe something was off – but that is neither here nor there. They professed to not think the chat was very interesting (for such a not interesting chat they were there until the bitter end) and that it wasn’t really about musicals. Of course, our live chat is about anything and everything – although, certain ones will be performer oriented. For example, for those who weren’t with us last night – Melissa Errico will be doing an Unseemly Live Chat when her album comes out, and I have already figured out how that will work so that it’s not just me feeding her questions, which I find a bore. Also, for those who might have missed my post, Melissa has done her Unseemly Interview and it will be up on Friday and it’s wonderful – she’s sparkling and lively and bright and fun and I assure you you will love every minute of it. That will be followed by Unseemly Interviews with our very own Brent Barrett and also Doug Storm (currently in Dance of the Vampires). Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Several people asked about Luckie and how she’s doing. I was ready to give up, frankly, but my friends Penny and Jane gave me some advice – advice that is difficult to take, but which I’ve been trying and by golly and by gum if it doesn’t seem to be working. Their advice was not to punish Luckie when she has her moments – clearly smacking he in the head and putting her outside isn’t working – she’s not getting the “why” of it. They suggested just treating her with love and making sure she knows everything is fine with me and that she’ll eventually trust me and stop doing it. So, that’s what I’ve been doing, and we haven’t had nearly so many episodes (only one in three days, and it was minor) – she gets really nervous after she does it, but I’ve calmed her down gently and she’s fine. Perhaps that will be the trick. Only time will tell. Why will only time tell? I want something else besides fershluganah time to tell. Why can’t the flowers tell, or baked beans tell? Why will only time tell? Damn them, damn them all to hell. Speaking of hell, what the hell am I talking about?

I just this minute found out that this Saturday’s signing at the Grove has been pushed back to February 20th, which is a pain in one way, but better for me in another. So, the 20th is definite and perhaps some of you will be able to check in for that one.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button because otherwise I’ll just keep on writing in this here section and that will lead to a severe bitch-slapping by Mr. Mark Bakalor. Speaking of Mr. Mark Bakalor, he is ready, willing and able to get our Unseemly Photo Gallery up, but a few of you haven’t sent your photos and he’d like to do it all at once. So, please get them to him by the end of today. Will he get them up quickly? Only time will tell.

It looks as if my New York trip will be on January 26th and I’ll be coming home on the evening of the 28th. I’m thinking we might try to have our Hainsies/Kimlets get-together on that Monday night the 27th. Dear reader Susan will be making those arrangements.

Today, the lovely and sparkling Lisa Richard and I will be going to Mr. Grant Geissman’s house to do vocals on the Nudie Musical demos. We’ll be joined by that man about town, Mr. Guy Haines.

Today I’ll be picking up the brand spanking new remastered DVD of All About Eve, which I’m most anxious to watch. Tomorrow, the person who does my installing will come to swap out the broken DVD player for the new all-region player, and then everything should be back to normal.

We had several High Winners in the trivia contest. Here was the question:

A play by a well-known and successful playwright and screenwriter, later (much later) turned into a film. This play featured a very interesting cast. One of its players would go on to star in a classic musical comedy, the film of said musical comedy and a beloved sixties television series. Another of its players would go on to play the second banana in a classic seventies television series. The play also featured several musicians, including a well-known pianist and a well-known sax player. The well-known sax player would later be the subject of a film that was loosely based on his life – said film directed by a major motion picture director and starring two major motion picture stars.

Name the play and the playwright.

Name the two stars of the much later film version of the play.

Name the actor who would go on to star in a classic musical play and film, and classic 60s television show.

Name the actor who would play a second banana on a classic 70s television show.

Name the sax player and the film loosely based on his life.

And here are the answers:

The Rat Race by Garson Kanin
Debbie Reynolds and Tony Curtis
Ray Walston (Damn Yankees and My Favorite Martian)
Pat Harrington (One Day at a Time)*
George Auld, New York, New York

Now, apparently the Pat Harrington of The Rat Race was the father of Pat Harrington of One Day at a Time, but that didn’t fool our High Winners. And they are: JMK, Mark Rothman, Jrand55, Arnold M. Brockman and Steveg. And our Highest Winner, chosen randomly by our handy-dandy electronic hat is Jrand55. If Jrand55 will send his address we will get him a sparkling prize.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must continue doing corrections on the book, I must do rewrites on Nudie and the film, and I must do errands as well. Will I get all that done? Only time will tell, damn its ungrateful eyes. Today’s topic of discussion: What would a perfect day be for you, from morning till evening?
