THE MATTERS AT HAND, FOOT AND ELBOW

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I think we all know by now that Friday is a day for short notes, a day when I must be succinct after the long notes of Thursday. So, I will get right to the matters at hand and then I shall get right to the matters at foot and after that I shall get right to the matters at elbow. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

I’m sorry the notes have to be short today, for today I was going to relate the wonderful tale of The Randy Vicar and the Floppy Disc, but we’ll simply have to save it for another day.

Last night I watched the first hour of the deeply sublime Douglas Sirk film entitled Imitation of Life. I shall watch the rest this very day and have a full report tomorrow.

Yesterday, I had dinner with our very own Tammy Minoff and she sends everyone her love, and hopes that all our East Coast Hainsies/Kimlets will come see her in our Tourette’s Benefit. Last night I also had my first massage in six months and it was, in a word, extremely glorious in every way shape or form. Now wait just a consarned minute – that wasn’t a word, that was eight count them eight words. Who on earth did I think I was going to kid with “in a word” when it was eight count them eight words? I ask you.

Well, let’s click on the Unseemly Button below and keep these short notes short – after all, we must continue getting to the matters at hand, foot and elbow, mustn’t we? Oh, yes, we must.

Now, on to the matters at hand, foot and elbow. For example, did you know that I will also be watching the brand spanking new DVD of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas? I will and I shall and they I’ll have a full report for you.

On a sad note, if you pick up this month’s GQ you can read Mr. James Ellroy’s account of the murder of Stephanie Gorman, a friend of mine from high school (our very own Susan Gordon and Jane also knew her). It’s written in Mr. Ellroy’s terse style, but at times it’s more about him than Stephanie, and I also wished it were a longer piece.

Now, for the first time in our history here at haineshisway.com I’m going to tell you what tomorrow’s topic of discussion will be so that it gives you time to gather your information. After yesterday’s wonderful posts about what special meal you would prepare, I got very hungry indeed and I thought it would be fun for each and every Hainsie/Kimlet to share a favorite recipe, so that we can all put on our chef’s hats and aprons and try various and sundried new dishes. Isn’t that a splendiferous idea?

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must lunch with our very own Brent Barrett, I must write and rewrite, I must do errands and shop, too. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday, so what is in your various and sundried DVD/video and CD players? I’ll start – DVD, Imitation of Life and Whorehouse, CD, a wonderful new release of a Cal Tjader (my favorite vibes player ever) two-fer of two classic late 50s album (before he’d gone Latin-crazy) – Cal plays Harold Arlen, and more importantly, Cal plays West Side Story, which is so cool, man, cool, it’s got icicles. I’ll check back in later to see what y’all are listening to and watching. And be thinking of your favorite recipe to share and we will have an all-food Saturday fiesta right here at haineshisway.com.
