THERE ARE DAYS AND THERE ARE DAYS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, there are days and there are days. For example, today is a day. Yesterday was a day as well. I have no idea if today will be better than yesterday but it wouldn’t take much. Yesterday was one of those days, one of those days when you just don’t want to even leave your home because you feel that if you drive five other cars will suddenly plow into you. When one has such a day all one can do is let it end which, mercifully, it has. And now yesterday is over and today is with us. So far it is better. Of course, I just arose, but the gardeners are out there mowing and planting some nice flowers in the front of my house. I know that all you dear readers have had those types of days, so I know we all empathize with each other when we do.

But why dwell on yesterday when we have today? One could also say why dwell on today when we have tomorrow? Tomorrow is always a day away, you know. I learned that from Martin Charnin. Before Martin Charnin told me that, I had no idea of such things. I have no idea what the hell I’m talking about because loud mowing is going on and I cannot think I tell you, I cannot think. I believe that not only is mowing going on, I believe they have the dreaded leaf blower activated. So, there is mowing and blowing going on (not necessarily in that order) and frankly it is blowing my already-blown mind.

Whenever I have such a day as yesterday, it puts me in mind of that wonderful Meltz and Ernest song about perseverance and maintaining a positive attitude. Here is its opening:

When life throws you a curve
And you don’t get things you deserve
Do you sit and mope and whine
No sir!
If you bellow and curse
Well, then, things will only get worse
And the sun will never shine.
When things start to get rickety
Don’t get cross and persnickety
Smile! And lickety-split you’ll be fine.

Isn’t that a fine way to look at things? That just perks me right up even though there is mowing and blowing going on. In the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that I am having a Vanilla Diet Coke this morning. I have not had such a thing before, but dear reader Jose mentioned it to me and I bought one. It’s very nice, but will not be replacing my normal Diet Coke.

Well, dear readers, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button and let’s not be cross and persnickety whilst doing so.

Have I mentioned that there are days and there are days? Do you know I once recorded a song with that very title? Craig printed the information about my radio interview in yesterday’s posts, so if you missed it, that’s where you’ll find it. The interview takes place tomorrow at ten o’clock Pacific Mean Time. Do try and listen because I will reveal many shocking and revealing things on a variety and Hollywood Reporter of topics.

I have not decided what I shall do today, although I have quite a few phone calls to make and quite a few details to attend to. Tomorrow I will be attending a reading of a musical that was done in the 70s and which has been revamped for today. I will let you know more about it after I’ve seen it.

The pundits here in Los Angeles all predicted rain this morning, so naturally the sun is shining. And from this they make a living these pundits do.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do whatever they might be. I must travel wherever my automobile might take me, but first I must put petrol in said automobile or it will be taking me nowhere fast. I must ponder the meaning of there are days and there are days and I must eat various and sundried foodstuff whilst doing so. Today’s topic of discussion: I feel it is time for another bout of Wrong Casting, don’t you? I feel we are all very good at this – so, please cast in the most wrong way possible, our very own revival of Porgy and Bess.
I shall check back in to see your excellent suggestions and then I will pass them along to the Shuberts. Do you think the Shuberts eat sherbets? Do you think that sherbets eat Shuberts? These are the questions that are spinning round like a circle in a spiral like a wheel within a wheel in the windmills of my mind.
