RED, WHITE AND BLUE PANTALOONS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, put on your colored tights and red, white and blue pantaloons, put on your pointy party hats, barbecue some cheese slices and ham chunks and dance the hora or perhaps even the frug, because we are having a party here at haineshisway.com. We are doing some celebrating here at haineshisway.com because today is the 4th of July, a time for fireworks and parades and merriment and mirth and laughter and legs. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is the 4th of July so but some coals in the barbecue or buy some barbecue take out or do something with a barbecue because that is simply what one does. My neighborhood is alive with the sounds of the 4th of July – dogs barking madly, children gaily running about saying madcap things and the singing bird is out there doing a rousing rendition of Fireworks from Do Re Mi.

I have quite a bit to do today for reasons which I will mention over the weekend, so I shall keep these notes short and sweet since we had such endless ones yesterday.

I must admit that I have no fireworks here at my home. No sparklers, no firecrackers, no snakes, no nothing. I might buy some gummy bears later and light them on fire. Oh, that will be festive, all those colorful little gummy bears ablaze.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because we’ve got to put the coals on the barbecue and light some gummy bears ablaze, don’t we?

Have I mentioned that it’s the 4th of July? Have I mentioned that our Unseemly Live Chat is on Sunday and that it’s going to be a corker, oh, yes, it’s going to be a corker. Have I mentioned that we are going to have a poll right here at haineshisway.com? We have been asked repeatedly if we are going to do some radio show repeats and by gum and by golly Donald and I have decided that for the next four weeks we are going to do the Best of The Broadway Radio Show, wherein you dear readers will pick which ones you’d like us to repeat. Then we will do a certain number of them and not just on Sundays – there will be a new one up every few days. So, here is the list from which to choose – please e-mail your choices to donald@haineshisway.com and he will tally the votes and I will print the winners here and then tell you which show will play when. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must celebrate the 4th of July, I must write until the cows come home, I must go hither and thither and I must parade about in my colored tights and red, white, and blue pantaloons. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD and DVD/video players? I’ll start – car CD, the new two disc set of Alfred Newman’s soundtrack to the Captain from Castile, which is terrific. Home CD, I have been on a Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond kick, playing all their CDs – especially lovely are the Desmond without Brubeck CDs, most of which have full orchestra and arrangements by Don Sebesky. If you’ve never heard the Late Lament album or Mr. Desmond’s Simon and Garfunkel album, try and find them and give them a listen. Your turn. And have a safe and sound and festive and gay 4th of July.
