A LOVELY BUNCH OF COCONUTS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m apparently still employed, and I’m thinking that this job might just last long enough until the other show goes into production. So, if I’m asked back to do that (I believe the chances are good that I would be), then one job would lead directly to the other and wouldn’t that be a lovely bunch of coconuts?

Today, she of the Evil Eye will be here, so I must amscray out of here posthaste. I shall go to our very own Donald Feltham’s house where I shall tape a radio show devoted to the new CD, Jeepers Creepers. Then, I shall do some errands, then I shall come home and write until the cows come home. Won’t that be a lovely bunch of coconuts?

Why am I going on about coconuts? I seem to have an unnatural obsession with coconuts on this particular Saturday morning. I’ve got coconuts on the brain (no mean feat), and I’ve also got coconuts on the cornea. I’ve just got too much fershluganah coconuts for my own good.

Today I shall also be picking up the new Superbit transfer of Lawrence of Arabia – normally I wouldn’t, as I have the Special Edition, but the man who restored the film, Robert Harris, says this is a whole new transfer, and much better quality, and that some sound issues have also been fixed. I was not so thrilled with the image on the Special Edition DVD, which I found a bit soft for a 70mm film that should be razor sharp. So, I’m really looking forward to this new edition. And, I’ll be picking up Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, which I’m led to believe is absolutely spectacular.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly button below because she of the Evil Eye will be here at any moment.

Have I mentioned that I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts? Have I mentioned that I had a sparkling supper with dear reader Mr. Mark Rothman and his lovely frau. In fact, I said wow when I met his frau. We went to Mark’s favorite restaurant, Todai, a Japanese buffet where for one price you may stuff yourself like a pig – sushi, teriyaki, tempura, shrimp cocktail, crab legs, crab in black bean sauce, black bean in crab sauce, salads, soup, and a zillion other items. We, of course, stuffed ourselves silly and then we all wanted Todai. Thankfully, we didn’t.

Last night I watched the first half of Bugsy Malone, which I shall finish tonight. What a strange motion picture. I will have more to say tomorrow.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must tape our radio show, I must pick up DVDs, I must grocery shop, and I must get out of here before she of the Evil Eye arrives. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite classic Big Band/WWII era songs, whether uptempos or ballads? I’ll start – one of my all-time favorite ballads is At Last, and one of my all-time favorite swings is Sing, Sing, Sing. Your turn, and let’s have loads of lovely posts on this lovely coconut-laden Saturday.
