July 27, 2004:

A WAIT AND SEE ATTITUDE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are on a Tuesday. Yesterday was an interesting day for a number of reasons. I did a spot of writing for our little revue, and now have to write the finale of the show. Last night I staged all the songs in Act One, save for one, which we’ll do first thing tomorrow night. This is the fun part for me – getting these solos and duets on their feet and working with the actors on the interpretation of the songs. We’re doing my first pass show order and some of it seems like its going to play splendidly, while some of it I’ll have to take a wait and see attitude. Have you ever taken a wait and see attitude and, if you did, did you put it back or did you get away with the wait and see attitude theft? I, for one, take a wait and see attitude whenever I possibly can. In any case, I’m taking a wait and see attitude on certain songs, show order-wise. I’m also taking a wait and see attitude on these here notes. Other than that, I have only one word to say: Rugalach. Isn’t that a lovely word? Did I spell it correctly? I have no idea, really, because what do I know from Rugalach? For all I know it could be Rugalech or Rugalah or even Rugaleh. Until someone pipes up with a better spelling I’m taking a wait and see attitude. If anyone has the slightest clew as to what the hell I’m going on about, please send me an e-mail or, at the very least, a q-mail.

I’ve been trying to get through Love Happy on DVD but I’m afraid it’s a rather horrid movie, pretty much as I remembered it from previous viewings. I guess I always want to try to like it – after all, it’s the final film of The Marx Brothers, even though Groucho’s scenes are by himself. He doesn’t interact with Chico and Harpo. The film is based on an idea by Harpo and it’s co-written by the great Frank Tashlin. But it’s just leaden – bad direction by David Miller, bad songs, bad camerawork, but it does, of course, have the film debut of Marilyn Monroe, who is beautiful. We’ll see if I finish it. I’m looking forward to watching the two Thunderbirds theatrical films that were recently released (or are about to be released).

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below or, perhpaps we should take a wait and see attitude on that. Has anyone noticed that I typed “perhpaps” instead of “perhaps”? What in tarnation is perhpaps? I do believe we’ve created another brand spanking new word here at haineshisway.com.

I have quite a few things I must do today and perhpaps I shall do them. Of course, I shall take a wait and see attitude. One of the things I must do today is lunch with Hank Moonjean. I recommended my publisher to Hank and Hank’s new book is about to come out. It’s a book about his years at MGM, as an assistant director and associate producer on some of the biggest fifties and sixties MGM films. I’m really looking forward to seeing his test copy tomorrow and we’re going to discuss what a good release strategy is for him, book-wise.

I have a very sore neck right now. Mostly the left side. The right side is slightly sore at the left side for being so sore. The left side is too sore to be sore at the right side for being sore at it.

That was quite an interesting paragraph, wasn’t it? Such depth, such emotion, such drama. I think I shall plotz over that paragraph.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write, I must organize, I must do errands, I must rehearse and, above all, I must take a wait and see attitude. Today’s topic of discussion: We may have discussed this before but damn it all we shall discuss it again – when you are feeling tense and like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, what is your best and favorite way to relax and rid yourself of the tension? I’ll start – barring a massage, if I can coerce someone to come over and rub my dogs (not my literal dogs, but my unliteral feet) that’s just about my favorite thing to relax. Add to that a little light arm scratching and a head and hand rub and I turn into a drooling idiot. Second topic: Come up with a definition for our newest haineshisway.com word – perhpaps. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and do me a favor – don’t take a wait and see attitude.
