FRIED FOODS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had a full dress run-through and actually managed to get through it without any disasters. A few rough spots, of course, but I think it went rather smoothly. Some of the light cues are still a bit off, and I changed a few after seeing the run-through. The costumes look wonderful and the cast is really getting used to going straight through the show and finding the energy level it’s going to need. Some are still fighting to remember words, but I’m hoping by Friday we’ll be locked and strong, not necessarily in that order. I did intensive work on a couple of numbers which weren’t landing in any way, and they were much better last night. Today, I’ll be doing the same thing with a couple of other numbers, plus we’ll be cleaning up some staging issues and then we’ll do another full dress run-through tonight. I’m just about ready to see this with an audience – that will tell me what work needs to be done. I’m hoping nothing will totally bomb, but I’ve got some things in my back pocket in case of an emergency. We’ve only got our invited dress and two previews to do any work on fixing things. We shall see what we shall see.

I must soon hie myself to the Oaks of Sherman to get my oft-delayed haircut. Then I have to do some organizational work at home, then I go to the theater around three. We’ll be adding mics tonight, which I hope will go smoothly. The set is almost finished, and our lighting designer is finessing the lighting daily. I’m ready for a long and languid massage.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because my hair is giving me dirty looks.

I must say, our notes sessions are a lot of fun. One always has to express notes in a positive way, but also one must express notes so that they sink in and so that the actor knows precisely what’s not working and how to fix it. I try to do it with a lot of good humor and I think our cast appreciates that. I’ve been very demanding with one of our cast members – relentless, in fact, in trying to get him to be sharp and defined and to get him to be the best he can be. He’s coming along now, and I think by opening he’ll be just fine. Certain things he does are marvelous, but his solo numbers just weren’t working at all, and those are what we worked yesterday and those are what really were 100 percent better last night. Have I mentioned that I am ready for a long and languid massage?

For those in the LA area, I would really recommend you book your tickets soon. Simply go to www.plays411.com/whatif and there you will find our direct phone number for reservations, or you can make them right there online.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must get my hair cut, I must do errands, I must catch up on a few things that need catching up on, and I must go to the Wood of Holly to rehearse our show. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite fried foods? I love me my fried foods – I know they’re not all that healthy but I love me my fried foods anyway. I’m talkin’ about fried foods. I want to hear all about your favorite fried foods in lovingly loving detail. I’ll start: I love me my fried chicken – really like Popeye’s, I must say. I love me my fried catfish and fried clams. I love me my French fries and my onion rings and I love fried zucchini sticks at Astro Burger. I love me my fried filet of sole, too. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely fried postings, shall we?
