ONE SOLITARY DING DONG

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, from what I understand we should have a nice-sized house tonight. I’ve asked the cast to get to the theater half-hour before half-hour so we can get them warmed up and also run a couple of the group numbers where they’ve had trouble with the lyrics. Before that, I’ll be doing a radio interview with Julio Martinez on KPFK – I gather this is live, so if anyone would like to tune in, I’m on from twelve to twelve-thirty. Then I must do lots of stuff that needs doing prior to going to the theater. I know lots of people coming this week so it will be fun to see everyone. Also, it looks almost positive that we’ll be extending one more week – just waiting on final confirmation from one cast member. We can’t extend beyond that because the Hudson has another show coming in. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

Last night, after a couple of most annoying phone calls, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Little Murders. I remember quite liking it when I saw it on its initial release – it’s still got some mordantly funny moments but as a whole it isn’t much to my liking anymore. That said, it’s worth watching just for the brilliant performances of Vincent Gardenia and Elizabeth Wilson. The transfer replicates the dark and grainy look of the film (Gordon Willis was the cameraman). After that, I watched some more Groucho episodes on the third and final disc. One of the episodes featured Miss Phyllis Diller – what an exotic-looking person she was prior to her nose job. My favorite episode on the third disc, thus far, is one with a young and beautiful actress named Joy Harmon. Groucho liked her so much she ended up being a regular on the short-lived Tell it to Groucho show. I looked up her credits, and she didn’t have the career she would like to have had – her biggest film is Cool Hand Luke in which she plays The Girl (if I remember correctly, it’s a small but memorable part of the film). Just prior to doing You Bet Your Life she’d been on Broadway in a show called Make a Million with Sam Levine. I’ll have to look that up.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly I’m feeling a bit weird – not sure if it’s something I ate or if I’m getting sick or what. I hope it’s not the latter because I really hate being sick. In fact, I shall not be sick, that is all there is to it. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

I’ve been on a strange dessert kick – Vanilla Swiss Almond ice cream over one solitary Ding Dong. This amuses me for some reason. I eat it and am very amused. I walk about the house, amused as all get-out from the Vanilla Swiss Almond over one solitary Ding Dong. One Solitary Ding Dong – perhaps that will be the title of my next book. Speaking of my next book, I have been very lax about completing the final proofing and fixing the final errors. That makes me one solitary Ding Dong, doesn’t it? Hopefully, I will get to that next week.

I have heartburn – that’s why I’m feeling strangely. In fact, I feel like one solitary Ding Dong. I had a roasted garlic chicken pizza yesterday and I think it had too much roasted garlic on it. After that, I ate the amusing Vanilla Swiss Almond ice cream over one solitary Ding Dong, and I think the combination of all those culinary items has produced the dreaded heartburn.

Now wait just a darned minute – just hold your hats and hallelujah because I’ll be darned if we don’t have two count them two birthdays to celebrate here at haineshisway.com. Yes, Virginia, you heard that right, so let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the tango because today we’re celebrating the birthdays of dear readers Jose and Jrand. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer – on the count of three: One, two, three – HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR READERS JOSE AND JRAND!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must be on a radio show, I must attend to things, I must eat Vanilla Swiss Almond ice cream over one solitary Ding Dong, and then I must attend What If. Today’s topic of discussion: What are the weirdest combinations of food that you eat – things that just don’t seem to go together that you somehow love? Topic two: What are your favorite films featuring a comedy team? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? We shall.
