THE ABBREVIATED NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes quickly because I am late, late, late (that is three lates). Last night we had a nice performance with a half-full house of very appreciative people. The show was a bit rough occasionally as the cast got used to the rhythm again after a few days off. The sound worked better but there are still some problems which we’ll hope to fix tomorrow. I’m still getting used to the new speakers and making adjustments here and there, but I’m longing for the day when the sound is working perfectly. One thing we’re going to do in the immediate is move Brandon, our sound man, into the actual theater (he’s in the booth now). That will help things, I think, and won’t impact us since we have the room to do it right now. Alet’s ever-lovin’ hubby Andy Taylor was with us last night along with some friends and he really seemed to enjoy the show. The LA Weekly, true to form, was a mixed review, but he held the mixed part until the last two sentences and what preceded it was pretty much a rave (all of the reviews have been mostly positive and it’s been really easy to get pull quotes). The Tolucan, the Burbank newspaper, was a love-letter and best of all, she totally “got” the show in every way and even said in her best line that it was a “themeless” revue. I’m sure they’ll be a handful of others and I’m sure they’ll be mixed, too, but hopefully there will be some positive things so that we can pull a quote or two.

Yesterday, I watched no movie on DVD, but I did manage to score the new Criterion DVD of Mr. Fellini’s brilliant I Vitelloni, which I’m looking forward to seeing.

Oh, yes, we had a dear lurker at the show, and she brought some fans of Juliana (they were sad they were missing Juliana by one night). Our dear lurker bought all three Kritzer books, which was very sweet of her.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must keep these here notes abbreviated because I am late, late, late (that is still three lates).

Yes, the rest of these here notes shall be abbreviated. For example, I can write: The rst of thse here nts shl b abbr. I like the look of that frankly or even georgely. Yes, abbr. notes, that’s the tkt.

My gdness the nts jst mve alng fst when ur abbr. them. However, it’s a bit hard on the eyes, I must say. Last night, after our show we went out to a hip and trendy coffee shop on Beverly Blvd. near Crescent Heights. It’s called Screamers, I think, and a noisier or more obnoxious coffee shop I’ve never been in. Tammy and her brother ordered chocolate milkshakes and Tammy immediately proceeded to knock hers over, making a horrid mess all over the table. Don’t believe me? I have the photographic evidence and shall post it momentarily.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must meet about our marketing strategy, I must get people to book reservations, I must relax and then I must go to meet up with our very own Juliana A. Hansen at the theater. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start: DVD, Claude Chabrol’s Le Boucher in what at first glance looks to be a fairly lousy transfer. Then I’ll be watching the new volume of You Bet Your Life shows with Groucho. CD, a Paul Desmond CD – wonderful and moody, with orchestrations and arrangements by Robert Prince. Mr. Desmond was the berries – nobody like him really. If you’ve ever heard Mr. Dave Brubeck’s classic Take Five, then you’ve heard Mr. Desmond’s creamy sax playing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we?
