THE ALL-DAY AFFAIR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we got a lot of really good and specific work done at yesterday’s rehearsal, which was an all-day affair. I started by running Act One, and cleaning things up as we went along. This is the first time I’ve really given detailed direction on performances, so that’s always fun, plus I tightened the staging on certain numbers, and added a lot of things to a couple of numbers that needed it. After we got back from lunch we had a costume parade – the costumes are simple but really fun. After that, we ran all of Act One straight through, pretty much without stopping, and the cast did very well – adding the adjustments and new staging and adding to their characterizations in the songs. The act ran just about an hour, which is just what I wanted it to be. This morning we’ll do the same thing with Act Two, then we’ll have lunch, and then starting at one we’ll do two complete run-throughs of the entire show. I pretty much know where I need to add what I call “runners” – the in-between song bits, and I’m half-way through with the finale. We’ll also be prerecording some voices for a new bit we’re going to try to insert somewhere in Act One or Act Two. It’s a really funny idea if we can make it work. So, all in all, a very pleasing day yesterday, although there is still a lot of work to be done in honing the performances, especially in the What If bits, which are funny but not as sharp or tight as I want them. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Last night I finished watching Thunderbird 6, which I enjoyed very much, but not as much as Thunderbirds Are Go, which I found more entertainingly entertaining. Another excellent transfer, though, and a lot of fun. It’s a terrific set, and I’m now going to watch all the little mini-documentaries that are included. Next up – Robert Rossen’s Lilith, starring Miss Jean Seberg and Mr. Warren Beatty. I’ve never seen it and I’m really looking forward to it, since I’m going through a major Jean Seberg love affair right now.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m having another all-day affair today.

Don’t forget, tonight is our Unseemly Live Chat at six o’clock Pacific Mean Daylight Savings Time. I won’t be there at the beginning, but I hope to be there by six-thirty at the latest, so keep the home fries burning, chat-wise.

I’ve just realized that I pretty much have all-day affairs this entire week. I haven’t had this many affairs since – well, never you mind. Have I mentioned that I adore my cast? I do. I mean, if you have to have all-day affairs you need to have them with a cast like this. Our set should be close to being finished by tomorrow, and the floor will have been cleaned up and painted anew.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must rehearse, I must prerecord (yes, Virginia, I, BK, make a guest appearance in the prerecord), I must hone, I must tighten, and I must finish our finale. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to choose the topics and we all get to respond in our various and sundried ways. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings – in fact, let’s make it an all-day and even an all-night affair, shall we? We shall.
