THE EXHAUSTED NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had a sold out house but as per usual, a bit of a strange Saturday night audience. They didn’t seem to “get” some of the parodies, but loved other numbers more than other audiences have. They were appreciative, though, but just a few too many people sitting with their arms folded not knowing why they were there (we still have a very small amount of paper, and Saturdays tend to bring out the quieter elderly people). This type of reaction always throws the cast a bit, especially after the two shows we’ve just had, each of which totally killed. Still, the movie trailer parody got an even bigger reaction than it normally does (huge) and they cheered at the end of the show. Go know. I’m having a small clean-up rehearsal on Thursday to tighten some things that have gotten sloppy, but the big news is a new song is going in Thursday night, if Tammy has learned it and is comfortable. I’m hoping that’s the case. We’re going to learn and block it over a couple of days early in the week. I have no idea if it works or not and there’s only one way to find out. I just haven’t been happy with the way Joshua Noveck has been playing, despite the fact that Tammy has gotten really good in it. It’s just long and involved and for some reason it just doesn’t seem to have enough payoff for the length of the song. I’ve been working on its replacement for a week-and-a-half and finished it yesterday. We sang through it last night and Tammy really likes it. It’s lots of words to learn, but she’s used to this sort of thing. It’s a faster tempo, which will help, and basically the new song serves the same function as Joshua Noveck, but I’m hoping it will land better. It’s not meant to be overtly funny (which Noveck is, even though it’s not funny enough) so we don’t really care if they laugh or not – we just care that it hold their interest and serves Tammy well. It tells a good story, I think, and the tune is very catchy – Tammy can basically remember it completely even though she’s only heard it twice. I’ll keep you posted on its progress.

Well, these here notes are going up quite late so why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I mustn’t tarry or dally any longer.

I’m exhausted. I need a massage. I need a foot rub. I need my arm scratched. My life over the next couple of weeks is going to be very disrupted and annoying, but I’ll just have to deal with it as best I can.

Have I mentioned that I’m exhausted? Have I mentioned that our Unseemly Live Chat is this very evening at six o’clock Pacific Mean Daylight Savings Time? Be there or be round.

I do hate to be so abrupt, notes-wise, but these are, after all, the exhausted notes, so I must finish them and get them posted for your mental delectation.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must go hither and thither but not yon, I must relax, I must attend to things that need attending to, and I must partake of our lively and sparkling chat. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to choose the topics and we all get to pontificate on them as if we were great sages, not to mention great parsley and rosemary and thyme as well. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings on loads of lovely topics, shall we?
