THE LATENESS OF THE NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m very sorry for the lateness of the notes but it couldn’t be helped and if you’ve ever tried to help “it” you’d know that it couldn’t be helped. “It” is so beyond help it isn’t even funny. And why isn’t “it” funny? My goodness, I seem to have gone off on a tangent, which I should not be doing on account of the lateness of the notes. In any case, I’m back, and I shall write the notes in a trice and get them posted as quickly as possible.

Last night I saw a musical comedy entitled The Producers. This is the number two tour and I must say it’s a well-oiled machine. Very slick and well played. I haven’t seen the show since I saw it in New York just before it opened. It’s still very funny even with a few casting problems. The tour wrapped up its stay in Costa Mesa last night – what a horrid theater it is – a huge barn-like cavernous space. The show looked splendid and Mr. Andy Taylor, husband of our very own Alet Taylor, was an excellent Leo – in fact, I liked him much better than Matthew Broderick. But Bob Amaral as Max was not to my liking at all – very forced and filled with effort. To me, there is nothing as unfunny as someone putting forth a lot of effort trying to be funny. Mr. Amaral has made a career out of standing by for Mr. Nathan Lane and then taking over the roles eventually. He “does” Nathan, but none of it comes naturally and I found it hard to even smile at some of the show’s best jokes because his performance just didn’t work for me. I liked the Carmen Ghia very much, the Roger DeBris and Ulla less so. The direction and choreography is sharp and the sets and costumes look splendidly splendid. But may I just say I am so tired of the “sound” of today’s shows – it’s so overamplified with so much reverb, plus there’s a good deal of the chorus parts that are prerecorded, and I find that annoying, too. Still, it was all fun and I do like the show very much. Their next stop (on Tuesday) is San Diego – catch it if you live in that neck of the woods or even that chin of the woods.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because the lateness of the notes is getting later all the time.

Has anyone noticed the lateness of the notes? I have, and I’m rusing like crazy to finish them and get them posted. I’m going so fast that I typed “rusing” instead of “rushing” that’s how much I’m rusing and rushing to finish them.

Don’t forget, tonight is our Unseemly Live Chat at six o’clock Pacific Mean Daylight Savings Time. Be there or be round, won’t you?

Now wait just a darned minute – I do believe we’d all best put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, we’d all best break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, we’d all best dance the Hora or the Hokey Pokey, because we’ve got us a birthday to celebrate. Yes, Virginia, we’ve got us a birthday to celebrate and that birthday belongs to our very own TCB. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer, shall we? On the count of three: One, two, three – HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR VERY OWN TCB!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must finish these here notes and get them posted, I must sleep, I must do many errands today and I must attend our live chat this evening. Today’s topic of discussion: Maybe we did this before, but we’re doing it again because it’s all I can think of on such short notice – what are your all-time favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, two of the greatest episodic television series ever done? I’ll have my choices later, but for now let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we?
