INSTALLING THE NIPPLE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here it is, Monday, the start of what I hope will be a splendidly splendid week. I must write in a hurry, though, because at seven in the morning Mr. Air Conditioning Man arrives to put a nipple in my air conditioning unit. Yes, Virginia, you heard that right – he will be putting a nipple in my air conditioning unit. I had no idea my air conditioning unit was missing its nipple. How unseemly. He also has to do just a touch of touching up some of the insulation. He should be done within two hours, then I must vamoose or, at the very least, vamox from the home environment, so Mr. Termite Man can tent the house and kill each and every termite, whether real or imagined. Supposedly, we’ll be able to get back in mid-Wednesday, when all the other work that has to get done will get done (some of which may spill over to Thursday – but it all has to be done for close of escrow on Friday). I, of course, will be checking into the Renaissance Hotel in the heart of Hollywood, California, USA. I’m available for any hainsie/kimlet get-together. After I’m checked in I, of course, will get this here laptop computer hooked up and online so I can post all the livelong day and night. At six, we have a rehearsal at the theater to work on the new number – our choreographers will be there to do the very specific dance moves the song needs. Then we work again on Wednesday afternoon, then for a bit before the show on Thursday, then, if I feel it’s ready, it will go in on Thursday night. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

We had a nice show yesterday, a matinee. We added the two matinees at the behest of our group sales lady, then she forgot that we added them. So, we had to scramble, but we ended up with about forty very enthusiastic people. Next week’s should be fine.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because any minute now my air conditioner will have a brand spanking new nipple.

What fun we shall have tomorrow, posting from on location. We’ll have to have a little celebration so I will be bringing my pointy party hat and my colored tights and pantaloons along. I wonder if the air conditioning man can give me a nipple, too. I’ve always wanted an extra nipple and if the fershluganah air conditioner can get a nipple then why oh why can’t I?

I wonder if the air conditioner, in addition to its new nipple, will get a brassiere? Just asking.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must do errands, I must do a change-of-address thing, I must make arrangements to get the phone turned on, and Adelphia turned on, and Direct TV turned on, all, hopefully, on Thursday. Lots of calls to make, lots of details to be dealt with. Today’s topic of discussion: Henry Mancini has always been one of my heroes. During the Bay Cities days we reissued his film score to The Molly Maguires and I had a really nice phone conversation with him back then. So, what are your all-time favorite Mancini scores (the actual film scores rather than his album re-recordings) and what are your favorite Mancini themes and songs? I’ll start – I love, love, love (that is three loves) Two for the Road’s title song, and Moon River is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I love the scores to Touch of Evil, Breakfast at Tiffany’s (especially its final cue where Holly is looking for her cat), Hatari (a great score), and Wait Until Dark. My favorite Mancini theme that’s not also a song is one of his least-known: Soldier in the Rain – absolutely stunning. I also like a few of the Victor/Victoria film songs, and his song from 10 is wonderful. I leave the rest to you. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and I shall be joining you from my room high atop the Renaissance Hotel.
