THE RETURN OF C.C. BROWN’S

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here I am, writing on location from the fancy-shmancy Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood, California, USA. I’d never been here before – it’s quite nice and, as I posted yesterday, I have a lovely suite thanks to my friends the Jones’ daughter Sophie. I think the rate I’m paying is probably cheaper than a Motel 6. I find the Highland and Hollywood complex very scatterbrained in terms of its layout, but there are some nice shops and lots of food choices. Last night, for example, I had three slices of pizza which were quite yummilicious. The rehearsal for the new song went well, but it remains to be seen whether it will be ready for Thursday or not. It’s a lot more complicated than Tammy’s new number was – a lot more staging and choreography. It has the potential to be very good, I think, if it’s learned correctly and if the music and words are sung correctly. I also think it will serve its spot in the show better than the song we’re cutting, but that also remains to be seen. Yesterday morning, before heading over to the hotel, I did a quick walk-through of my new home environment – it’s a very nice house, and more importantly, it feels good and right. It’s going to take a bit of thought as to how all my bookcases and CD cases will fit, but I’m sure it will work out fine. I have to decide which part of the living room the piano will best fit in; that’s the most important decision, furniture-wise, because the movers must absolutely know where it goes by Thursday morning. If I do get my keys on Wednesday, as planned, then I’ll go over there again with a measuring tape and make some serious decisions. Meanwhile, Adelphia and the phone will both be working by Thursday. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

From my window in the hotel I’ve got quite an astonishing view and it’s really pretty at night. On TV here, there is an endless loop of a promo for Val Kilmer in The Ten Commandments. The fact that a show like this can even exist is astonishing and pitiful at the same time. It looks so bad, so horrifying, that it’s probably a must-see. The music sounds dreadful, the lyrics sound like they could have been written by a grade-schooler, the actors in the promo all have those hideous head mics that go all the way down their cheeks right to their mouths. That really helps the believability factor, doesn’t it? This thing has already been booked into the Radio City Music Hall in New York. The main producer is some clothing designer who’s designed the costumes for the show. Lauren Kennedy is in it, so at least that’s nice.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I want to reiterate some exciting news that I posted yesterday.

Well, we’ve had the Return of the Creature, the Return of The Fly, the Return of the Jedi, but no return has ever matched the excitement, at least in these quarters, of the Return of C.C. Brown’s. Apparently they’ve franchised the name to some people who’ve opened a counter in the new Schwab’s in the new complex at Sunset and Vine. I’ll be paying a visit tonight with our very own dear reader Pogue and I shall have a full report. From what I understand, they’ve got the proper serving cups and hot fudge urns. I’ll miss the Schumachers running it, of course, but I shall be in C.C. Brown’s heaven once again.

I’m doing a Kritzer Time reading this Saturday at Portrait of a Bookstore in the City of Studio. It’s a really charming bookstore owned by Miss Patty McCormick and it’s situated inside the charming Aroma CafĂ©. I do hope some of you will come by to say hello. I begin at three o’clock and I’ll probably be reading from all three books. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell yourselves and be there or be round. The bookstore is located on Tujunga Blvd. and it’s just south of Moorpark (between Ventura and Moorpark).

Speaking of dear reader Pogue, let us wish he and his ever-lovin’ Julieanne a very happy anniversary.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must work out in the hotel gym, I must take a long walk, perhaps I might take in a movie at the Arclight or the Chinese, and I must do a variety and also a Hollywood reporter of things. Today’s topic of discussion: Let’s hear about your media set up. What type of TV do you have, do you have surround sound, what type of DVD player do you have, do you have a dedicated space for watching media, do you have TIVO, do you still have and use a VCR – just tell us everything about how you view your entertainment at home. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we?
