EEK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are, the start of a brand new eek and I, for one, am looking forward to it. Has anyone noticed that I typed “eek” instead of “week”? I rather like “eek” better, don’t you? A brand new eek. Wasn’t that a song in Aladdin? In any case, I’m looking forward to this eek and I intend to have fun, fun, fun (that is three funs). Yesterday, I managed to get in a decent amount of writing, and I also managed to get in a decent amount of relaxation as well. I have lots of things to do this eek and I hope none of the things I do make me say “eek”. For example, I must write more pithy dialogue and I must find new ways to say, “Whaddup, dog?” I must do some errands, I must possibly attend an event or two, and I must catch up on some phone calls that need catching up on. That will be the minutiae of my eek. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Last night I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Mulholland Falls. I was hoping I’d like it better than I did eight years ago when it first came out, but I’m afraid it’s still quite bad, despite having some pleasing elements, like Dave Grusin’s nourish score (wonderful – it’s on CD and you should get it if you can), and Mr. Richard Sylbert’s production design. The actors are all fine, but the script is extremely muddled – it start out being about the “hat” squad of the LAPD, and then turns into something completely other. The direction, too, is muddled beyond repair, but I suppose it was worth my time just to gaze upon the lovely countenance of Miss Jennifer Connelly, who is very beautiful. She had a little cosmetic surgery prior to this film (a boob job) and I don’t like that sort of thing, nor did she need to do it. She apparently felt the same way since she undid it soon thereafter. The DVD transfer is very good, but I’m afraid the film just doesn’t quite cut the mustard, the ketchup, or even the mayonnaise.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because otherwise the eek will get away from us all.

We had a small but lively Unseemly Live Chat last night, which may be the last one for awhile. I’ll let you know what I finally decide. It seems that neither Sunday nor Monday nights are good for people and the chats, while always sparkling and lively are more fun when there’s more participants. So, maybe if we take a break we’ll start anew and afresh somewhere down the road. What are your opinions?

Mr. Mark Bakalor is hard at work designing a Writer’s Block website, and we’re hoping it will be up and running within the next two weeks. There you’ll be able to place your book orders for signed copies, you’ll be able to read an excerpt or two, and, when we get around to recording the songs featured in the book, you’ll be able to hear snippets right on the site. And, as I announced over the weekend in a post, I’ll be doing my first LA signing on December 11th at Bookfellows in Glendale (my good luck store). I do hope some of you will be able to attend our gala event.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write, I must go places, I must call people and I must eat various and sundried foodstuffs. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite science fiction and fantasy novels? And have any of them been made into faithful films which you feel represented the source novel well? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and start off the eek with a bang.
