PITHY REMARDS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are on a brand spanking new Sunday. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m sitting around in my lounging pyjamas, smoking jacket, pipe, and slippers, like so much fish. Yes, Virginia, it is Sunday, a day of rest and relaxation and also relaxation and rest. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be doing today and tonight, although I fear I’m supposed to do something. Actually, tonight I’ll be going over to Mr. Grant Geissman’s home environment to finish the book cover design, but that shouldn’t really take more than an hour. Until then, I shall laze about like a water lily on the back of a gazelle. I shall sit and look at my feet, which shall be resting, elevated, on the coffee table on which, by the way (BTW, in Internet lingo) there is no coffee. So, why must we have the pretense of calling it a coffee table when, in fact, it is a Diet Coke table? Last night I supped with our very own Vinnie Cirilli and his ever lovin’ Stefanie. We went to a place I’d never been to before, called Spark. The jernt was jumpin’ and with good reason: The food is superb, even though most of it has ingredients I don’t like. I found a dish that sounded good, penne pasta with beef and sausage ragu and some light cream. It was beyond good, it was faboo. And the salad was amazing – a half-head of lettuce with blue cheese dressing, candied walnuts and red onions – out of this world. They have homemade banana cream pie and that was excellent, too. It was great to see Vinnie again and we had lots of fun catching up and dissing those obvious people who needed dissing. I told him we’d be back in the studio soon to record What If and he was very excited. All in all, a splendidly splendid evening.

Afterwards, I watched some more of the new DVD of Mr. Roman Polanski’s film of Tess. It’s a lovely film, very long, but the transfer leaves a bit to be desired. There’s nothing terrible about it, but it’s just a bit “video” looking to my eyes (and others’ eyes – comments I’ve read have said the same thing). What is great about the DVD is the sound, which is fantastic. This film has a great score by the always-great Phillipe Sarde, and it’s never sounded better. I’ll have a fuller report once I’ve finished it.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst we continue lazing about in our lounging pyjamas, smoking jackets, pipes, and slippers, like so much fish.

Don’t forget, Donald should have a new radio show up by this evening, and don’t forget that our Unseemly Live Chat is tomorrow evening at six o’clock Pacific Mean Daylight Savings Time. Be there or be round. Also, don’t forget tomorrow is Columbus Day.

Why do I feel there is something I’m supposed to do today? I hate that feeling, although I’ve taken to telling people to be sure to call me to remind me of things. I also think there’s something happening tomorrow, too, but I can’t remember what it is. Tuesday I know I’ll be going to the theater, and Wednesday I’ll be supping with our very own Juliana A. Hansen, and Thursday I’ll be supping with my pal David Wechter. My goodness, this is shaping up to be a busy week, dinner-wise.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must laze about in my lounging pyjamas, smoking jacket, pipe and slippers whilst making pithy remards to anyone who’ll listen. Has anyone noticed I just typed “remards” instead of “remarks”? Damn them, damn them all to hell. In any case, I shall make pithy remards to anyone who’ll listen and the devil take the hindmost. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to choose the topics and we all get to post about them in our own fashion (lounging pyjamas, smoking jacket, pipe, and slippers). So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we? And the devil take the hindmost, whatever the hell that means? What does that mean? The devil take the hindmost? Does the hindmost ever take the devil? I tell you, confusion runs rampant in my brain. Nonetheless, that will not stop me from making pithy remards.
