SOMETHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, can you believe we actually had a spot of rain here in the Angeles of Los? I was on my way to heat up the Jacuzzi when I felt the pitter-patter and also the patter-pitter of rain upon my dome. It didn’t last all that long, but it was nice. I shall have to go out and see how my weatherproof patio furniture did and if all I have to do is wipe it down for it to retain its usual luster. We haven’t had rain in quite some time and it was very welcome. I had quite a full day yesterday, yet I cannot recall anything I did. I know I went to Tower to buy some Astrud Gilberto CDs, only to be surprised at their pitiful selection (I had everything they did). I did find a grand new album, though, a two CD set of Claus Ogerman recordings. This marvelous set features his own compositions for symphony orchestra, plus his arrangements and orchestrations for a plethora of great artists such as Bill Evans, Wes Montgomery, Stan Getz, Hank Jones, Oscar Peterson, Freddy Hubbard, Frank Sinatra, Antonio Carlos Jobim, right up through his latest for Diana Krall. I’m a huge Ogerman fan and this was quite a treat to find. I also saw the cut of Act One of What If, which I was not thrilled with and which I’ll be redoing with the editor. Basically, he used too much from the Thursday and Saturday shows – all I want is the Friday show, with certain things from the Saturday show (in their entirety), along with occasional “coverage” shots from Thursday and Saturday. I’m just very sensitive to the performances and the audience reaction and that’s all I care about – if there’s some bad camerawork, so be it. It shouldn’t be all that hard to fix. I tried to write a bit, but only wrote a handful of lines as I wasn’t really in the mood. Today I hope to be in the mood. If I’m not in the mood that will spell doom but only because doom is mood spelled backwards.

Yesterday, I watched That’s Entertainment II and III. I must say I don’t really like either of them, although they each have interesting things in them. The first film had a bit of magic to it, but the second and third just feel “by the numbers” and are just not that interesting. The extras disc, aside from the cut numbers, wasn’t much to write home about. I know this because I, in fact, wrote home about it and it wasn’t even half-a-page. Not sure what I’ll watch today – lots of choices.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because if I’m going to write I want to get an early start. I hope I write something to write home about because I need something to write home about and it would be fun to write something that was worth writing home about.

Have I mentioned that it rained last night? Have I mentioned that it’s the shank of the morning? Yesterday we had the shank of the afternoon and the shank of the evening. Apparently shank is a catch-all term and can be used anytime anywhere to describe anything. For example, I am now in the shank of the notes. Is that something to write home about? Or is that nothing to write home about? I think the latter rather than the former, don’t you?

Don’t forget, tonight is our Unseemly Live Chat at six o’clock Pacific Mean Daylight Savings Time. Be there or be round. And Donald should have a new radio show up this very day.

Now wait just a darned minute. We’d all better put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, we’d all better break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, we’d all better dance the Hora or the Carioca, because today is our very own Dan-in-Toronto’s birthday. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own Dan-in-Toronto. On the count of three: One, two, three – HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DAN-IN-TORONTO!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write, I must drive in my automobile, I must do some shopping, and then I must be here for our Unseemly Live Chat. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to choose the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have some topics we can write home about, shall we? And let’s have loads of lovely postings, too.
