THE POST-GOBBLE GOBBLE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had our pre-gobble, our gobble, and now we have our post-gobble, where we all sit around on our various and sundried sofas like so much fish because we are unable to move due to the heavy amount of food intake we all intook. That was a sentence, wasn’t it? That was a sentence-and-a-half as a matter of fact. I had a perfectly perfect Thanksgiving day – I relaxed and smelled the cranberries, I puttered about the home environment, I even met my friend Mr. David Wechter and his kids at Tommy’s Burgers – they ate, I sipped on a Diet Coke. I then went to dear reader Panni’s home environment (bringing a home environment-warming gift, of course – she can tell you about it), where we partook of Thanksgiving meal. She made a mini-turkey, maxi-yams, maxi-mashed potatoes, maxi-stuffing, mini-creamed corn, maxi-cranberries, and mini-rolls. Since it was my only meal of the day, it didn’t seem to me I was eating all that much, but at the end of my first helping I thought I was going to have a heart attack. That, of course, didn’t stop me from having a second helping, and then later in the evening a mini-third helping. But, everything was yummilicious. We took Abie out for a walk – Abie, who has always been fond of me, fell in love with me last evening. It was cute. The only downside was that Abie has the kind of pelt that I’m allergic to, although, thankfully, the allergies didn’t begin until I was almost ready to leave. Then I came home and as the Jews say, plotzed. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

My DVD plans went awry, and I only ended up watching one count them one DVD entertainment entitled Spite Marriage, film number two in the new Warners Buster Keaton set. I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as The Cameraman, but it still had very amusing moments that were laugh-out-loud funny. But somehow you can sense Buster is not happy, not as at ease with the comedy as he normally was. However, sporadically funny Buster is one hundred times funnier than mostly everyone else, so I still enjoyed it very much. The more I think about The Cameraman, the more I think it a brilliant piece of filmmaking. The source material on Spite Marriage is in much better condition than that of The Cameraman. I’m going to try to do a DVD marathon today and really catch up or, at the very least, try to ketchup.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below as we continue our post-gobble notes.

I’m still so full it’s not even funny. Whenever the fullness abates I shall ponder today’s menu. At some point I believe our very own Mr. Nick Redman will be stopping by to pick up his copy of Writer’s Block and to show me one of the many documentaries he’s working on for the upcoming Sam Peckinpah set – this one, I believe, is on composer Jerry Fielding.

Other than that, I shall simply lounge about in my lounging pyjamas and smoking jacket and my bunny slippers. At some point I shall drive in my motor car to my mail place to see if any packages have arrived. I must also begin planning which selections I shall be reading at the first Writer’s Block signing in the Dale of Glen, one week from tomorrow.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must lounge about like a gazelle reading the New York Times, I must do a spot of writing if I’m so inclined, I must watch DVDs and I must attend to a few various and sundried things that need attending to. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your DVD/video player, and your CD player? I’ll start – CD, the marvelous newly-released album Guys and Dolls Like Jazz with Eddie Costa on vibes, the great Bill Evans on piano, and Paul Motion on drums. It’s a faboo recording and I love, love, love (that is three loves) it. Also, the soundtrack to Oklahoma Crude by Henry Mancini. Also, the soundtrack to Bad Education by Almodovar regular Alberto Iglesias. DVD, the final film in the Keaton collection, Free and Easy, cartoons in the new Volume Two Looney Tunes set, and perhaps a Marx Brothers film or two. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings shall we, on this our post-gobble gobble day.
