BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here I am, on location, high in the sky as I wing my way back to the home environment. What a difference in flights – no Olga Rodriguez (or lack thereof), on-time departure, my beloved bulkhead aisle seat, and the sun out as I departed New York, New York. As if that weren’t enough, I have the entire bulkhead row to myself and I am ever so comfy and cozy. The flight, although very long at six hours, is actually a nice birthday gift. I did have a splendidly splendid trip – it was so nice to see people I haven’t seen in far too long, especially our very own elmore – we had a lovely time catching up and recounting old war stories. He told me several interesting things that had to do with Black Saturday three years ago – things he was told about me by the “person” who was a key player in engineering the takeover of the label I’d created. Apparently, that person was going around telling everyone I had embezzled money from the company. And some people believed it because he made it sound so plausible. Only it wasn’t true, not one single word of it. And funnily, at my deposition this “embezzlement” was never brought up. I wonder why? Could it have been that it was a base lie and that not one shred of evidence could be presented? I think so. In any case, I do find it amusing that when this “person” was recently ousted from the company (he says he quit, they say he was fired) in much the same manner I was (I warned him it would happen to him just as it had happened to me), he, too, was accused of embezzling from the company. Do we see a pattern here? In any case, I still believe karma will take care of everything else. But, it was interesting to hear this stuff and I’ll be making good use of these stories, oh, yes, I’ll be making good use. I think this laptop contraption needs a new battery, because fully-charged I’m only getting ninety minutes instead of the three-hours plus I used to get. Damn them, damn them all to hell. Well, I shall continue these notes later, from the warmth and comfort of the home environment.

I arrived home at eleven-thirty and the sun had broken through the clouds to welcome me home. I was and am severely overtired, but I just had the best day. I had lots of packages waiting at my mail place, I got a few new DVDs, and a couple of new CDs, about which more tomorrow on CD/DVD day. In the evening, dear reader Panni was kind enough to take me for a birthday dinner at Spark. It was a lovely meal, topped off with our beloved Parisienne Cake. I caught up on some phone calls, too. Just what “up” was doing on some phone calls is anyone’s guess. I swatted “up” off the phone calls, just to teach “up” a lesson.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because there’s ever so much more to talk about.

Today I shall get back to work, today I shall get back in the swing of things, doing the script polish, and also writing a bit on both of the new books. I began the fiction book on the plane and am still trying to get the first five pages to my liking – they’re getting close, but it sure did take awhile. Then tonight I shall be going to the Ridge of North where I shall be the special guest on a wacky radio show, On the Dial with Peter and Miriam on KCSN. Tune in if you can, and you can call in as well. We go on the air at nine California time, and it lasts three hours. Not sure if they have an online version – maybe someone can do a little search to see if they do. I’ve done the show two or three other times and it’s a total hoot.

I must say, I can barely keep my eyes open, so very tired am I. I hope I can sleep in a bit, and then get back in the swing of things. And don’t forget, on Saturday we’ll be doing a signing at The Mystery Bookstore in Westwood. It’s on Broxton, just south of the Village Theater, so come on down if you’re in the neighborhood. I’m there from eleven until two and there will be lots of party food and drink.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get back in the swing of things, I must write, I must put gas in my car, I must do some errands and whatnot, I must listen to CDs, I must watch DVDs, and then I must be on the radio. Someone told me it’s all happening on the radio. I think it was Donna Summer. Today’s topic of discussion: Marlon Brando’s career has been the good, the bad, and the ugly. What are your favorite Brando performances, and what are the most risible Brando performances, and what are your guilty pleasure Brando performances? And what are your favorite musical scores to Brando films? I’ll start – favorite Brando performance – I’ll say On the Waterfront. It’s a wonderful performance, full of pain and hurt, and surprisingly tender. Most risible and guilty pleasure all rolled into one: The Night of the Following Day, which I adore. And, I suppose, most risible could also go to A Countess from Hong Kong. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? As for me, I’ll be getting into the swing of things.
