CAMELTOE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, just one more day until our Rockin’ New Year’s Eve bash right here at haineshisway.com. It shall be the partay of the year, with a bit of the bubbly, food galore, friends galore, and the ginchiest partay on all the Internet. I shall be dressed in my special Rockin’ New Year’s Eve clothing – lounging pyjamas and smoking jacket and bunny slippers. I shall have photos galore, hopefully taken with my new digital camera, which I should and better be picking up today. My new Mac should and better arrive on Friday, and on Tuesday it will be professionally configured to my every need, and everything from my Dell will be transferred over to the Mac. Yesterday, I had a wonderfully wonderful day doing not much of anything. I ordered my Big Mac, and did some errands, and them Miss Juliana A. Hansen came to visit. We sat on the couch like so much fish and had fun catching up. I’ll be seeing her again on Saturday, as her father is coming into town and we’re going to have breakfast. Then, she departed, and the Pogues arrived bearing lots of homemade yummilicious foodstuffs, such as barbecued beef, barbecued pork, baked beans, cole slaw, and devilled eggs. It was quite a feast and we all stuffed ourselves silly, whilst discussing a word that had been discussed at the Jones’s the other night. I’d heard the word before, but never knew what it meant. Miss Sophie Jones brought it up and it became the word of the evening: Cameltoe. Once you know what the word means it is impossible to keep a straight face whilst saying it. Also, once you know what cameltoe means it is impossible to not want to vomit on the ground. Tonight, cameltoe was the topic of discussion at our meal. We then sat down to the evening’s entertainment, Evening Primrose, which Julieanne hadn’t seen since it was first aired in 1967. But first, we had some short subjects, which I always show to treasured guests – my favorite episode of The Jack Benny Show, and my favorite episode of Sgt. Bilko. We laughed and laughed, and then we watched Evening Primrose. There are many copies of copies of copies of copies floating around, but my copy, I must say, is actually pretty good. It’s a wonderful hour of entertainment, and the brief Sondheim score is one of my favorites, brimming with melody and clever wordplay. Anthony Perkins is great, as always, and Charmian Carr is charming, although her voice is not so pleasant on the beautiful I Remember Sky. I love the original John Collier short story and I love James Goldman’s adaptation of it. After that, I ran some of my favorite Broadway clips from my fifteen hours worth of Ed Sullivan tapes (the fifteen hours is nothing but Broadway numbers – every one ever done on his show). We saw Dick Van Dyke do Put on a Happy Face with the original Gower Champion staging, we saw Robert Weede, Jo Sullivan, and Susan Johnson do Happy To Make Your Acquaintance from The Most Happy Fella, we saw Gwen Verdon do I’m a Brass Band and If My Friends Could See Me Now from Sweet Charity, we saw Lucille Ball do Hey, Look Me Over from Wildcat, and, as our special tribute, we saw Jerry Orbach sing Her Face from Carnival. Again, there are many poor quality tapes floating around, but mine were made right off the master tapes, so the quality is astonishing. All in all, a wonderful day and evening.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below so I can tell you of a little problem I’m having that is bugging me and it’s not a cameltoe.

I am being bitten to death, that is the little problem that is bugging me. I don’t know what exactly is doing the biting, or when said biting is even occurring, but I’ve got bug bites all over my arms. I don’t know what to do about it, either, since I can’t see any bugs anywhere. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated because these here bug bites are bugging me.

Today I must do more organizing, must do some errands, and must start figuring out what I need and don’t need on this here Dell computer. I don’t want to take over everything, just some things. Don’t want a lot of clutter. I am going to try not to eat too much food today – this holiday season has been one of non-stop eating since last Friday, and I have to stop. I must stop. I cannot not stop or I shall be as big as my house, and I think we all know that I must be lithe and svelte with abs and buns of steel. Right now I feel like an amorphous blob, do you hear me? An amorphous blob or, in other words, a blob which is amorphous. So, I think it’s going to be major dieting time over the next couple of months. Of course, if these invisible bugs keep biting me, perhaps they’ll suck out the fat.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must go hither and thither and definitely yon, I must ship a book, I must do some banking, I must travel about in my motor car and I must eat no food whilst trying not to be bitten to death. And I must being my quest to not be an amorphous blob any more. Today’s topic of discussion: What were your favorite discoveries of 2004 – things that you found, old and new, that enriched your life or gave you pleasure during the year. I’ll start – for example, I discovered what a cameltoe is, and even though it was a late discovery I feel it has enriched my life. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? We shall.
