THAT CHRISTMAS THING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are, Christmas Day, and I hope Santa Claus was good to all the hainsies/kimlets. I hope Santa Claus came down your chimneys and left lots of little goodies. I’ll be opening my goodies shortly. Merry Christmas, all you dear, dear people out there in the dark. Today is a day of happiness and joy and merriment and mirth and laughter and legs. Our annual Christmas Eve Do was a rousing success – what fun we had. I was so busy the whole evening I never even had time to post. We had a houseful of lovely people – the guests included Adryan Russ and her ever-lovin’ Dale, Panni and dear daughter Rachel, our very own dear readers Jay, Noel, and his ever-lovin’ Joy, the wonderful Charles and Julieanne Pogue, Barbara Deutsch and her son Sam and his sweet girlfriend Natalie, our delightful PennyO, Joan Ryan and her ever-lovin’ Howard, my new friend Barbara Cutler (whom I’d met at the Wechters two weeks ago), Kevin Spirtas and pal Mark, and I can’t remember who all else dropped by. I could not believe how much spaghetti was eaten, but everyone said it was the best the sauce has ever been. Julieanne became obsessed with the tuna pasta salad, everyone ate candy, and chocolate donuts, and Parisienne cake, and Barbara’s homemade mini-muffins, and whatever else was lying about. We laughed and laughed and just when we though we could laugh no more we laughed again. I showed a very rare film I made in 1980 – back then I did an annual Kimmel Movie Marathon every year. These were held in a screening room I rented, and all 35mm films were shown from noon till four in the morning. In 1980, I gathered some friends and we made a faux movie trailer about the marathon – shot in 16mm and Cinemascope, starring Candy Clark, my pal Alan Abelew, and little old me. I hadn’t seen this thing in over twenty-two years, by my friend Dave Strohmaier, who edited it, had a copy put on DVD for me, properly letterboxed, of course. After that, we all sat around cracking wise, and having a swellegant time. There is nothing like a bunch of smart witty people in the same room. The partay broke up around ten-thirty and everyone went their merry way. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

I’m just going to sit around in my lounging pyjamas and my smoking jacket this morning. I shall do nothing but sit on my couch like so much fish and watch Edgar Wallace movies all the livelong day. In the afternoon, I may drop by our very own Nick Redman’s home environment. I’m not sure if my very own darling daughter is coming to visit tomorrow or in a day or two – I presume I shall hear from her via the contraption known as a telephone.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because there is more Christmas fun to come because we’re celebratin’ that Christmas thing.

Are your bells jingling? Is your night silent? Are you having yourself a merry little Christmas? Are your chestnuts roasting on an open fire? I love Christmas and I’m feeling very red and green today because we’re celebratin’ that Christmas thing. I do find it odd when Christmas falls on a Saturday. First of all, I wonder if Saturday likes having Christmas fall on it. That must hurt, don’t you think? What if one doesn’t like chestnuts? Are there other nuts you can roast on an open fire?

Last night, when I went to bed not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The mice had been stirring all day, so they must have been stirred out. Not only were the creatures and mice not stirring, I wasn’t stirring, because, frankly, I’d been stirring the fershluganah spaghetti sauce for six hours. That’s a lot of stirring, let me tell you.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, open these here goodies that Santa left me, I must eat some leftovers, I must lounge and watch DVDs, and then, perhaps, I must hie myself to the Monica of San to hang with the Redmans. Today’s topic of discussion: That’s easy – what did Santa bring you for Christmas? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as we celebrate this Christmas here at haineshisway.com in high style (calypso pants and a madras blouse). This is the best place on all the Internet to celebrate that Christmas thing, so come here and make merry all the livelong day and night.
