BLYTHE DANNER’S HAIR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I had a splendidly splendid day yesterday. I got everything accomplished that I wished to get accomplished, which always feels good. I then met the birthday boy, Pogue, and his ever-lovin’ Julieanne for dinner at our favorite, Schwab’s. They don’t seem to be doing much business on weeknights, but hopefully they’ll survive. The food was lovely, the conversation was sparkling, the laughs were long and loud, and then the capper was pie at House of Pies. I got lots of packages yesterday, which I always enjoy. But, one of my favorite things of yesterday was an e-mail I woke up to – the header was Blythe Danner’s Hair. That just made me laugh for hours. Someone had written me inquiring if I might know who does Blythe Danner’s hair. I don’t, but I said I’d ask amongst my friends. Isn’t that funny? People search for the funniest things and, for some reason, they end up at haineshisway.com. I think the title of my next novel will be Blythe Danner’s Hair. Or maybe I’ll write a song and record it. The flip side can be Bette Davis Eyes. Or, if I want to new songs I can write Meryl Streep’s Thighs. Blythe Danner’s Hair. I just love that. Where was I? Oh, yes, packages. I got two count them two original contact sheets from the film, The Young Girls of Rochefort. Many interesting shots on them – behind the scenes, Catherine Deneuve, Gene Kelly, George Chakiris and Jacques Demy. I found them on eBay really cheap. I also got the new The Twilight Zone Ultimate Collection season one, and the mid-eighties Twilight Zone, which I’ve never seen. I also got some CDs. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

So, does anyone know who does Blythe Danner’s hair? Perhaps Miss Blythe Danner is reading this and can pass that information along.

Yesterday, I watched a DVD which I got in a package. I’d never seen the contents of the DVD before and I was really looking forward to it – I won the DVD on eBay. The program on the DVD was the TV version of It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman. I’d heard it was bad, but nothing could have prepared me for the cheesy awfulness of this show. Every aspect of it was horribleness personified. The cast was awful, overacting and winking during the entire ninety minutes. The arrangements of what was left of Strouse and Adams’ score were so awful I though I would vomit on the floor – they were all dressed up in early seventies wah-wah guitar funk, and you couldn’t even recognize some of them, especially, You’ve Got Possibilities. In short, it’s one of the single worst TV shows I’ve ever seen. Blechhh, I say, and blechhh I say again. Frankly, I would rather have watched Blythe Danner’s Hair for ninety minutes than this piece of dreck. However, all was redeemed because I then watched a perfectly perfect film on DVD entitled The Girl on the Bridge, un film de Patrice Leconte. Mr. Leconte is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors – I’ve yet to see a less-than-wonderful film made by him. Monsieur Hire, The Hairdresser’s Husband, The Man on the Train, Intimate Strangers – all wonderful. And The Girl on the Bridge is equally wonderful – a sweet fable about fated souls who bring each other luck when they’ve had no luck on their own. It’s a tight eighty-eight minutes, beautifully shot in black-and-white scope and just a delight. The two stars, Daniel Auteuil and Vanessa Paradis are excellent – Miss Paradis is a real find and now I shall have to seek out other films with her. Unfortunately, only those with all-region players will be able to check out The Girl on the Bridge. If you do have an all-region player, it’s a marvelously marvelous film and well worth checking out. I’m now going to have to buy all available Patrice Leconte films – next up will be Ridicule.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I feel certain that Blythe Danner’s Hair would want us to.

I feel we should talk about Blythe Danner’s Hair, don’t you? I saw Blythe Danner’s Hair up close in the revival of my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim’s Follies. I though Miss Blythe Danner’s Hair did a great job in the show. It had much more life than Treat Williams’ Hair or Gregory Harrison’s Hair.

I had a nice call from my pal Mr. Michael Kerker of ASCAP, and he’s invited me to be on one of the panels for the Disney/ASCAP workshop, which I’ve done ever year for the last eight years or so. I always enjoy doing them, and I’m looking forward to this year’s panel. It’s on Tuesday next, and it will be nice to see Mr. Kerker as well as Mr. Schwartz. They’ll both be getting a copy of Writer’s Block, which I hope will amuse them.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, dream of Blythe Danner’s Hair, I must do a few errands, I must do a spot of writing, I must do a little thisa and a little thata, with an emphasis on the latter, and I must, at long last, begin some kind of diet and be serious about it. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question that might be on your mind and we get to give any old answer that might be on our mind. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions (example: Who does Blythe Danner’s Hair?), and loads of lovely answers (example: I don’t know), and loads of lovely postings, shall we?
