NAMELY 2005

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I can barely believe it and yet I must believe it for it is true. What can I barely believe and yet I must believe for it is true? Well, I’ll tell you what I can barely believe and yet I must believe for it is true – it is 2005. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is now officially 2005 and we have survived another year, namely 2004. I already like this New Year, namely 2005. So far, 2005 is splendidly splendid. But, doesn’t it feel weird to have Christmas and New Year’s Day on a Saturday? It gets me all discombobulated or, at the very least, discomgeorgeulated. I was supposed to have breakfast this morning with Juliana A. Hansen and her dad, but her dad decided not to come into town because of yesterday’s insanely insane heavy rain. And so, I shall sleep in and awaken when I feel like it, and then I shall lounge about in my lounging pyjamas and smoking jacket, and I shall merely putter around the house, oh, yes, I shall merely putter around the house. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

My new Powerbook is sitting in the dining room, in the box, just egging me on to open it – but I shan’t until Mr. Mac Man comes and sets everything up on Tuesday morning. I know I’m going to love this Powerbook. For example, yesterday I decided to load the software that came with my camera on my Dell, so I could post the photos I took yesterday. I clicked one wrong thing because it was written so confusingly that I got confused. Whatever I clicked caused the photo program to launch whenever I started the computer. That caused the virus protection program to freeze (they were trying to start concurrently). That caused everything else to freeze. I tried to restore the computer back to the day before so the program would disappear, but it wouldn’t do it because the stupid photo program tried to launch as the restore program was trying to restore. I finally found a way to go to programs and delete. It was, in fact, a nightmare, and all so the stupid Dell would recognize the camera. From what I understand, none of this will be necessary with the Powerbook. What a pleasure that will be in this New Year, namely 2005.

My goodness, I’m enjoying 2005 so far, aren’t you? Perhaps I’ll eat a pound of See’s Candies for dinner. No, no, I resolve to not eat a pound of See’s Candies for dinner. Have I mentioned that my Powerbook is just sitting in the dining room egging me on to open it? I must have willpower or, at the very least, henrypower.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, and, if you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to open the door and let the New Year in.

I’ve been listening to the magnificent new five-disc Burt Bacharach compilation on Hip-O Select, produced by my pal Jim Pierson. It’s all Burt’s work while at A&M, but it also includes some rare sides from Liberty and Kapp, as well as a couple of his more recent movie themes. The remastering sounds great, especially his later albums like Futures and Woman.

My goodness, it’s 2005, isn’t it? When I was growing up it seemed inconceivable that we’d ever actually be able to say it’s 2005. And yet, here it is, 2005. I resolve that 2005 shall be a wonderful year. I resolve that 2005 shall bring happiness to all who deserve it. I resolve that 2005 shall be a positive and magical year. I resolve that I shall strive to do my best as a person and as a creative being. I resolve – what am I, She Loves Me all of a sudden?

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must lounge about in my pyjamas and smoking jacket and dickie, I must, at some point, venture out for a drive in my motor car, I must eat a reasonable meal, for I am back on a serious diet so that I will be trim and toned with abs and buns of steel. Most of all, I wish each and every one of you the most wondrous year, namely 2005, imaginable. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your resolves? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, for it is 2005, the year of the post.
