BREAKING NEWS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s the weekend. I ask you, where else on all the Internet can you get such information? Breaking news: I must soon hie myself to the Bank of Bur to attend day two of the Ray Courts Hollywood Showcase. I shall, of course, have a full report and hopefully some more photos, this time taken with a real camera. Update: I must then hie myself to the Oaks of Sherman to begin initial work sessions on the new Guy Haines album. I’m hoping we can talk through at least three or four songs tomorrow so that Grant can get crackin’ on them. After the work session I know not what I shall do, although I can probably safely predict I shall watch a DVD or two and eat some foodstuffs. Breaking news: Yesterday, I only ate one meal – a bit larger than I wanted, but not so bad that I’ll gain from it. I had a bacon cheeseburger, a salad, and some onion rings. The End. I attended the Ray Courts show and check out yesterday’s posts to find out all about it and to see a photograph of my beloved Miss Hayley Mills, who I had a delightfully delightful conversation with. I had to cancel dinner at Crustacean because of the incredible downpour we had. I’m going to try to book next Friday. Breaking news: I have booked next Friday. What’s with all the fershluganah breaking news? One disappointment in yesterday’s Ray Courts show was that three of the dealers I most often by from were in absentia, oh, yes, they were in absentia. Maybe they’ll be there tomorrow. And that is all the breaking news.

Last night I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Last Life in the Universe. I’d never heard of this Thai film, but I took a chance on it based on the raves on the box. I should have known better. Critics really do have their heads in their nether-regions. I really should have known when I saw that one of the quotes was from Stephen Holden of the New York Times. If there’s a bigger idiot writing for a major newspaper, I have yet to read him/her. Anyway, this is one of those “festival” films, you know, arty. It’s the longest hundred and five minutes you’ll ever spend. It’s a mood piece but apparently I wasn’t in the mood for the mood. The film is photographed by someone named Christopher Nolan, who is touted on the box as the greatest cinematographer working today. They even list his credits. I have not seen one film this person has photographed, and based on this film I can tell you that there is not one shot in this film that I would call great. It’s ordinary at best, and at worst, arty for arty sake. I will be selling this one faster than a speeding bullet.

Breaking news: Why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must prepare to be on my way to the Bank of Bur.

Breaking news: Donald should have a brand spanking new radio show up tomorrow, so be sure to give it a listen. I’m quite excited to be working on this new Haines album. And I do hope everyone will like the selections we’re selecting. It’s a very personal process, but I think we’ve come up with some really good things so far.

I am very excited, dear readers. Why am I very excited? Well, I’ll tell you why I’m very excited because why should I withhold that information from you dear readers? I am very excited because I have purchased a brand spanking new television set to replace my brand spanking old television set. My old television was a 56″ rear projection Mitsubishi. I have been very happy with it, but of late I’m beginning to notice that it’s just not up to snuff with the TVs that have come out in the four years since I purchased it. So, I went to Good Guys and I bought me a 62″ Mitsubishi with the new DLP technology. This technology (digital light processing) eliminates the big drawback of older rear projection TVs, which use three “guns” of three different colors to create the image. The convergence of the guns is critical and it’s never perfect, and sometimes one must realign it, which is tiresome. The new technology does away with convergence altogether – it is impossible for the image not to be sharp all the time. It’s also a lot thinner than the old TV, and it enables me to do away with the heavy beast of an entertainment center which surrounds the old TV. I got a really nice stand for the new TV and all my components will fit nicely – so it will be a much “cleaner” look. I’m hoping it will be here Monday at the latest – it could be here sooner, but it could also be here Tuesday or Wednesday. I will, of course, have photographs for you to look at as soon as its up and running.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must visit the Ray Courts show (meeting up with dear reader Pogue), I must work with Mr. Grant Geissman, and I must eat and watch DVDs, not necessarily in that order. Today’s topic of discussion: What was the first TV set you ever owned? Please describe it in loving detail. Also, what was the first stereo set you ever owned? Please describe it in loving detail. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and please be sure to include any breaking news.
