March 17, 2005:

NEW YORK, NEW YORK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m writing these here notes early and will be posting them early in the hopes that I can get a reasonable amount of sleep before arising at 3:50 in the am. While that seems very early, just remember that the early bird catches the worm. I wonder if the worm ever catches the early bird, or if the worm only catches the later bird. In any case, I shall then be whisked away to the Long Beach Airport. I shall then fly on an airplane to the place we like to call New York, New York. On the trip, I shall most likely write some of tomorrow’s notes “on location” and I will begin the arduous task of starting to go through my new novel looking for errors and things that need smoothing out. Speaking of things that need smoothing out, yesterday I had such a fun day – doing banking, shopping for a coat and getting a great deal, buying a new Tumi wallet, picking up a few packages, and then having a nice swim and a very relaxing evening. I packed everything but a handful of items, and this morning I only have to add those few items to my new Tumi carry-on bag, and I shall be all ready to go, ready, willing, and able to catch the worm. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Last night I finished watching a motion picture entertainment on DVD entitled The Band Wagon. I like most of The Band Wagon, but not all of The Band Wagon. I will say that it has some extraordinary musical numbers (Shine on my Shoes – one of the greats – Triplets, By Myself, and Dancing in the Dark). However, for me, the big Girl Hunt Ballet is a snoozefest. Still, there’s some sparkling Comden and Green dialogue, clever choreography by Michael Kidd, and fluid direction by Mr. Minnelli. Once again, I find the DVD featurette on the film to be the usual boring affair, and I really grew tired of Liza’s bubbliness and repetition. But, with this DVD, the name of the game is the transfer, and it’s a doozy. Vibrant, sharp, and pretty accurate flesh tones. This is turning out to be a very nice box set.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, because I have to wrap up these here notes in order to have Notes Before Midnight – that’s the title of my next novel.

This is going to be a nice busy trip to New York, New York. Tonight I’ll be getting together with a few people at Joe Allen, including our very own elmore. Tomorrow morning I’m getting together with Mr. Tony Walton. Then I have an hour rehearsal booked with the folks who’ll be singing at the signing. Or is that signing at the singing? Then we have the signing, then another little get together at Joe Allen. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing during the day on Saturday – I’ve purposely kept it open. Then Saturday night, PennyO’s show, our big get together at Angus McIndoe, and then an early arising for my early flight back to Los Angeles, California, USA. I believe this is what’s called a whirlwind trip. I am really looking forward to meeting up with everyone, both at the signing and PennyO’s show. We will be having a marvy time, that much I know.

I will, of course, have full reports for you on every detail of the trip, live from New York, New York. I can’t remember how I posted the notes last time. I think I put them up at midnight (or whenever I got back to the hotel environment) and then just changed the date manually. Does anyone remember how that worked?

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, arise early, shower, finish packing, and then fly to New York, New York. Today’s topic of discussion: What are the most extraordinary concerts you’ve ever attended – rock, classical, jazz, and singers? Let’s have loads of lovely postings whilst I am winging my way to New York, New York. As quickly as I can get connected to the high speed Internet once I arrive, I will be reading all your excellent posts and making a few posts of my own.
