March 31, 2005:

WALTZING INTO APRIL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are, on the final day of March. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, this is the final day of March. I tell you, nowhere else on all the Internet can you get such up-to-the-minute news. March was swellegant, and here’s hoping for an even more swellegant April. Of course, tomorrow will be April Fool’s Day, and I’m sure Internet pranks will abound – hopefully ours, if we have them, will be a cut above. I cannot believe how March flew by, but fly by it did. I finished the book; I even did corrections and fixes on the book. I did a signing in the York of New, and met up with lovely hainsies/kimlets whilst catching our very own PennyO’s show. Much of the Guy Haines album’s pre-production phase came together all during March. April already has some interesting things going on: Guy Haines will be doing his vocals sometime in April (save for one New York duet), I will be signing at the Ray Courts show later in the month, and there is one other possible signing that may or may not come to fruition. Plus, I’ll be working with Mr. Kevin Spirtas for the entire month. What fun we shall all have. We shall laugh and laugh and just when we think we can’t laugh anymore, we shall laugh again. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Last night I attended a book signing for my neighbor Tony Slide’s new tome, American Racist. The signing took place at Samuel French here in the City of Studio. There were cheese bits and crackers, wine, Diet Coke and grapes. It was a small but fun crowd. Also in attendance was my cousin Alan and his ever-lovin’ Dee Dee (she’s VERY particular about how her name is spelled – Lord help the mister who spells her name incorrectly), as well as fellow neighbor Lynda Wadler, who is running for Studio City Neighborhood Council. Anyone who lives in Studio City should get out and vote for her – she’s very nice. All in all a good time was had by everyone.

I received Season Two of The Twilight Zone: The Definitive Edition, season two yesterday. I popped in one of my favorite episodes and took a gander. The episode, which is mentioned quite prominently in either Kritzerland or Kritzer Time, is entitled “22” and stars Miss Barbara Nichols. Unlike most of the series, this episode was shot on tape, which was done as a cost-saving measure and then quickly abandoned because the show just didn’t feel the same on tape. That said, “22” is great – and contains one of the series’ most memorable lines – “Room for one more, honey.” Miss Nichols is in fine form (literally) and the show still gives me the creeps. I look forward to other episodes – season two is filled with great ones, none more so than Eye of the Beholder.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because April is calling and I must pick up the phone.

April is on the line, and tells me it’s going to be a perfectly perfect month, with lots of goodies in store. Speaking of goodies in store, I’ve got little annoying gnats in my home environment. I’ve seen them from time to time, but it’s usually just one or two and I kill them and that’s that. But, this week I’ve killed at least ten gnats, and every time I walk through the kitchen I see another gnat. I cannot figure out where they’re coming from, unless they just are waiting by the front and back doors to follow me in. I’ve been trying to get in quickly so that that doesn’t happen. I do not like gnats. Gnats bug me large.

I cannot find my beloved moisturizing cream made by Caress. Methinks they didn’t do well and folded that line. A shame, because their scents were subtle and really nice and my face and hands liked them very much. So, today I had to buy Suave brand – I got a pretty nice smelling cream and I think it will do me fine.

My goodness, that was an entire paragraph about moisturizing cream. I ask you, where else on all the Internet can you find such a paragraph? Nowhere, that’s where.

Now wait just a darned minute. We’d all better just don our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, we’d all better break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, we’d all better just dance the Hora and the Locomotion because today is the birthday of our very own dear reader Ann. So, let’s give dear reader Ann a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER ANN!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must lunch with our very own Miss Tammy Minoff, I must do errands, I must catch up on some phone calls, although up is very clever and it’s really hard to catch up because up is never on the phone calls when you look, I must drive about in my motor car, and I must mourn the closing of one of my favorite local restaurants, the Outtake CafĂ©, where they had a simple and exquisite Chinese Chicken Salad. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite songs and orchestral pieces in waltz time? I love all of Mr. Richard Rodgers’ waltzes, but most especially the Carousel Waltz (brilliant piece of music) and Do I Hear a Waltz. I leave the rest to you, dear readers, as we go waltzing into April.
