OPENING NIGHT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I awoke at four-thirty in the morning, showered, and was then whisked away to the Beach of Long. I checked in, waited a half-hour, then boarded the plane, after a little scare where they tried to get me to give up my bulkhead aisle seat to a wheelchair person. I said no, which may seem unfeeling, but was necessary. They wanted to put me in the last row of the plane, on the aisle. That was not going to be happening. They might have had a shot if they’d asked if I’d take the middle seat, but then, since the wheelchair person would be boarding first, I didn’t see what difference that would make. They said fine (they were clearly perturbed), and said the wheelchair person would swap with the middle seat person, so that the wheelchair person was in the middle. As soon as they asked me to do the swap I did not believe them. And, guess what? No wheelchair person boarded the plane. The person next to me was a robust mid-fiftyish person, not someone who had a problem. This happens all the time, and I’m going to call about it. Two flights ago I was told that both bulkhead aisle seats had gone to wheelchair people. When I boarded the plane, both seats were filled with perfectly healthy people who did not need assistance in any way. In other words, they lied. I don’t lie about my claustrophobia, it’s quite real. This bit of business about the swap really bugged me, and if we hadn’t taken off right on time I was going to insist that the girl at the counter who’d given me a nasty look come on the plane and point out to me the person who needed my seat so badly. Anyway, the flight was very comfortable and quite speedy, and I got quite a bit of work done on my handy-dandy laptop. I got into the city very fast and then checked in at my hotel. My room was and is quite lovely – I’m on the 32nd floor. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

I then met the young lady who will be designing the Kritzerland website. She had a good energy about her, and she’s very excited to be working on it. We discussed in detail every aspect of the site – every page, every button, colors, style, the whole ball of wax. I have a feeling she’s going to really deliver something fun.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below so I can tell you all about our hainsies/kimlets opening night on Broadway (or 46th Street).

The hainsies/kimlets convened at Joe Allen at 8:15 for my opening night in New York, New York. It was a delightfully delightful group which included elmore, Rodzinski and his ever-lovin’ Antonia, Ben, and Tom Amorosi and Richard Valley of Scarlet Street. The food was excellently excellent – I had the prime rib, a dish I’ve never seen on the menu. I also had a small Caesar salad, a shrimp cocktail (which I shared with some of the table), and best of all the Coconut Custard Pie with whipped cream. The dish was dished, the fur flew, the conversation was daffy and daft, not necessarily in that order, and it was all just too too. Afterwards, Tom, Richard, Rodzinski, and I, went to Danny’s Skylight Room, but I was fading and I left soon thereafter. It was a lovely opening night in New York, New York.

I intend to sleep in, and then I shall be on my way to see Drat! The Cat! at Musicals Tonight. It’s the first time I’ll be seeing the show “on its feet”, which I’m looking forward to. As most of you know, I recorded the album of the score, and it’s one of my favorite studio cast recordings that we did. Then I’m sure I’ll be dining at Joe Allen afterward.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must try to get a spot of writing in when I awaken, I must make a few calls, and I must then leave for the show. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all time favorite Frank Sinatra tracks? I’ll start – Witchcraft, All the Way, This Was My Love, I’ll be Around. I’ll leave the zillions of other choices to you. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? We shall.
