START SPREADIN’ THE NEWS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, shortly I shall be on my way to New York, New York. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, shortly I shall be on my way to the city that never sleeps. I shall be leaving the home environment at five in the morning and going to the Long Beach Airport. I arrive around three-thirty and will hopefully be in the city by four-thirty. At six I have a meeting with my web designer, and at eight-fifteen I shall be supping with some hainsies/kimlets at Joe Allen. I wonder if it is as hot in the York of New as it is here in the City of Studio? Yesterday, for example, was a scorcher. I got up rather early to deal with a last-minute contract emergency for Tuesday’s recording. I got that sorted out within minutes, however, and all is well. I then made a few more phone calls before having to leave the home environment to she of the Evil Eye. I did some errands, had breakfast at the Farmer’s Market, came back to the Valley, picked up some mail, and then came home. Yesterday was one of those magical, lovely days when the mail had two surprise residuals for me, which I immediately took to the bank. I got cash for the trip whilst there. Then Miss Tammy Minoff and I went to a meeting regarding the little project we’ve been formulating (outside of the play we’re doing). I’m very excited about the possibility of this little project and will look forward to telling you all about it should it look like we’re going to be able to proceed with it. I got back from the meeting and packed and did some stuff around the home environment, then got a bite to eat, and then sat on my sofa like so much fish. I had the air conditioning on in both car and home, so hot was it. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’ve got to get the notes posted early so I can toddle off to the bedroom environment for my beauty sleep.

As I mentioned in the late postings of last evening, the show we’ll be recording on Tuesday is Mr. Tony Walton’s production of Noel Coward’s After the Ball, which ran late last year at the Irish Rep. I’m really looking forward to it, and I’m really looking forward to working with Miss Kerry Butler on Monday. I’m also looking forward to seeing several folks whilst I’m there.

I hope to get some writing work done on the plane – either doing fixes on the play, or starting a new short story that I have an idea for. Tammy and I read through the ending of the play (which was not done in time for our little reading), and it seems to work just fine. I made several little changes after hearing it aloud, to smooth a few moments out. I may also write some “on location” notes whilst on the plane.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be on my way to New York, New York, so start spreadin’ the news. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite coffee table books – those large, beautifully-illustrated and put-together books that you are proud to display and have people leaf through. Art books, photography books, film or theater books? I’ll start – I have a wonderful book on pinup artist Gil Elvgren that adorned my coffee table for quite some time. The new Stanley Kubrick Archives book is masterfully designed and produced and is a real looker. Art of Imagination is an amazingly produced book about speculative fiction imagery. And the two large Abrams art books by Lloyd Goodrich on Edward Hopper and Reginald Marsh are fantastic. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and don’t forget to start spreadin’ the news.
