WHAT A STRANGE DAY WAS YESTERDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what a strange day was yesterday. What a fine first sentence that was. It was a good day, mind you, but one with strange components. The first strange component was waking up a five in the morning after a succession of nightmares (about five in all). I got tired of the nightmares, got up, posted a few comments, nosed around the Internet, and got some early writing done. I went back to bed around six-thirty and fell right asleep and woke up about nine-thirty, so at least I got a total of about six hours of sleep. I then wrote some more (only about two pages, but they’re important ones, the beginning of the second act), and then had lunch with Miss Tammy Minoff. We discussed many interesting things at our luncheon and we will be lunching again this very day, this time with some money person that Tammy has found. I then came home and left immediately to pick up packages and drive around whilst listening to the complete set of mixes. I’m very happy with what I heard. I still have to nitpick about four of the songs from the new batch of mixes, and undo one thing that I fixed, but otherwise I’m pretty much done with futzing, oh, yes, I’m done with futzing. So, this afternoon I will do the little nitpicky things with Vinnie, then I’ll get a new CD in a slightly revised order. Then all that’s left is Kerry Butler’s duet. Since the track is already mixed, putting that together will only take about fifteen minutes upon my return. Then off it will go to the mastering facility. Tonight I meet with the booklet designer and I’ll get him started on things for both this project and the cast album project. Regarding the latter, we got the studio we wanted – actually a huge studio, the best in New York, and a bit of overkill for this sort of album, but we got a great rate, so why not? I’ve also been spending time going over contracts for that recording, trying to finesse them and get them finished by Monday, so they can go off to whom they need to go off to. Next week I have to have meetings about setting the label up officially. But, things are moving apace and it’s all very exciting. I’m afraid my long-time New York assistant is history – he has incurred the wrath of BK by not checking his e-mails, not answering his phone, and not having the sense to have an answering machine or voice mail. Hence, I am not able to communicate with him. He did not book the studio for the Kerry Butler session, which he was supposed to do, so I did it. Hence, so long, dearie. I will have me a brand spanking new assistant for these two recordings.

Now speaking of this upcoming New York sojourn, we must have our hainsies/kimlets gathering, so who would like to be in charge of setting that up? We could do Angus McIndoe again, or, if it’s not such a large group, we could do Joe Allen. I have kept Saturday evening free, as well as Sunday evening. Monday won’t be possible as I’ll be preparing for an early Tuesday session, and I have to leave Tuesday night open, as we never really know what time we’ll finish on those kinds of sessions. I don’t think it will run past seven, but I can’t be sure. So, let’s figure out who can handle the details and let them be handled, by gum and by golly and buy bonds.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst we ponder what a strange day was yesterday.

Despite our new dictum, this jernt was completely deserted by nine o’clock. That is just completely and totally wrong, and most unseemly. I simply closed up the jernt and will continue to do so if this is the way it’s going to go. There really is no reason to keep it open if no one is interested in late-nights here at haineshisway.com. It used to be ever so much fun late at night – some of our most heady and kooky postings occurred then. Now, it is just a ghost town and frankly or even georgely, it bothers me, son, it bothers me.

Now wait just a darned minute. Just hold the phone, halt the train, stop the world. Why don’t we just put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, why don’t we break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, why don’t we dance the Hora or the Jerk, because I do believe that someone around these here parts is having a birthday. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, someone is having a birthday and that someone is occasional poster and more-than-occasional dear reader La Jolie Femme, otherwise known as Pogue’s ever-lovin’ Julieanne. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to La Jolie Femme, otherwise known as Pogue’s ever-lovin’ Julieanne. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO LA JOLIE FEMME OTHERWISE KNOWN AS POGUE’S EVER-LOVIN’ JULIEANNE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write, I must have a lunch meeting, I must nitpick a few mixes, I must pick up a package or three, and then I must have a meeting with my booklet designer, and also deliver the book manuscript to the final proofing person, who will be at the book designer’s home environment. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, the new Guy Haines album and Rachel Portman’s new opera of The Little Prince. DVD, next up is The Razor’s Edge with Mr. Tyrone Power. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and perhaps someday we’ll bring back late nights to haineshisway.com.
