KEMPT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s already Wednesday, can you believe it. It seems like only yesterday it was Tuesday. Of course, it was Tuesday only yesterday, so there you are. Still, it got to Wednesday awfully fast, didn’t it? Yesterday was non-stop doing and going, not necessarily in that order. I started the day making phone calls, looking at booklet art, and then meeting dear reader Jane at Du-Par’s for breakfast (my third time in three days). We had a splendidly splendid time – we laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again. We spoke of many interesting things, and we ate pancakes, too. After I left Jane, I headed over to Vinnie’s to do some fixes on After the Ball. These ended up taking three hours longer than I thought they would, for various reasons that I won’t bore you with. But, it’s done, and now it’s mastered as well. I’ll be picking up the mastered CD today, to approve it and then send it off to our pressing plant, which I believe I’ve found (I do have to talk to one other today). I didn’t get home until almost six o’clock, and then I simply deposited myself on my couch like so much fish. Today I intend to write quite a bit, then perhaps get together with Miss Tammy Minoff to discuss various and sundried things, then continue to figure out who were calling in to audition on Saturday (lots of submissions). I may also try to book a massage for this week, and I must also book a haircut with Teddy, for my hair has become most unkempt and, as we all know, I must have kempt hair. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Last night I watched the extras on the Bullitt DVD – two feature-length documentaries. The first focused on the film’s star, Steve McQueen, and had very little to do with Bullitt. It’s one of those TCM “documentaries” – not so interesting, and filled with annoying little “arty” touches that drive me to distraction. Have you ever been driven to distraction? If so, who drove you and why? Where was I? Oh, yes, the extras. I then watched the next feature-length extra, which was a BBC documentary on film editing. I suppose they thought it was nice to include because Bullitt is featured in the show for all of about two minutes. I guess my point is, why not have extras which are actually about the film we’ve just watched? The film editing documentary had some very interesting things in it, and some excellent interviews with editors, but I really don’t need to see Quentin Tarantino spazzing out, nor do I need to see Pogue’s favorite director, Rob Cohen, giving us his “brilliant” thoughts on film editing, since he’s one of the worst directors working in film today. Next up, an early copy of Diamond Head, which I’ve never seen.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly this section is beginning to feel unkempt, and we all know I like to have kempt sections.

You see, this section is completely kempt. Neat and tidy, everything in its place. It occurs to me that I must decide which scenes we’re going to have the actors read on Saturday. We are hiring someone whose sole job it is is to make sure that none of the sides leave the building. I don’t want these scenes floating around. Do our actors here at haineshisway.com prefer scenes between two people to long speeches? Just curious.

I forgot just how many details there are to attend to with a new record label. The last time I did this, I had several people helping with all the details – this time, while I have occasional help, I’m doing most of it myself. I’m going to try to find a couple more volunteers, especially when it comes time to ship the CDs. I’m happy to announce that you’ll be able to preorder our first two CDs in just a few short weeks.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to be kempt, I must write, I must make phone calls, I must look at photographs for our booklet on After the Ball, I must make telephone calls, and I must pick up a package or two, along with doing some banking. Today’s topic of discussion: When you were growing up, what were your all-time favorite LPs – the ones your parents had laying around the house that you were obsessed with and used to play regularly – the ones that got you all jazzed about music and owning records? Let’s have loads of lovely posts, shall we, both unkempt and kempt, for we are equal opportunity here at haineshisway.com, unkempt and kempt-wise.
