LOVELY GOODIES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am on the verge of being sick, which I’m not thrilled about. I so try to avoid being around those who are not feeling well, but it was unavoidable, and I feel like I’m coming down with a scratchy throat and congestion. I’m keeping my spirits, positive, however, and that is half the battle. I’m drinking lots of emergenC and sucking down Coldeez. At some point today, I may have a big bowl of chicken soup. Yesterday, since I felt this coming on, I ate a bit more than I really wanted to, just because they say feed a cold and starve a fever. I don’t have a fever, and I could be coming down with a cold, so I am feeding the cold that I don’t yet have, in hopes that said cold will take a hike. I’ve got too much to do to be waylaid by a silly cold. Yesterday, my day started quite early with the arrival of the Direct TV people, who found that a bush was completely covering my satellite dish. Can you imagine? A bush, I tell you, was completely covering my satellite dish. I’ve just about had it with the whole bush thing, haven’t you? In any case, they removed the bush, and now my TV picture is back and I can view what I like, which isn’t much of anything, truth be told. I then picked up the packages that had accumulated during my trip to Portland. There were quite a few, and a few of them contained some lovely goodies. I love lovely goodies, don’t you? One can never have enough lovely goodies. In fact, I live for lovely goodies. I hope I get even more lovely goodies this very day. Where was I? Oh, yes, the lovely goodies. After that, I caught up on my phone calls. Just what “up” was doing on my phone calls, I’ll never know. After that, I proofed the new Guy Haines master, which indeed had less bass than the first master. However, to my surprise, I didn’t like it nearly as much, when I compared them. The first version had some oomph to it, and I think I overreacted. The second version had no oomph and no bottom at all. The first version had a lovely bottom, and, when given the opportunity, one should always go with a lovely bottom. Also, when the bass got softened it did something strange to Mr. Haines’ voice, so that was a consideration, too. So, I decided to go with version one, and I delivered both that and the After the Ball master to our pressing plant. I then ate some foodstuffs, then had an unpleasant phone call that I needed to have (people can truly be nauseating sometimes), then spent an hour on the phone with my web designer, going over every inch of the Kritzerland site. She did a few more little nips and tucks and she also did some tucks and nips. We have to go over just a few things in the morning, and then the site will go “live” at some point before noon. Deciding on the shipping charges was the hardest thing of all, but we decided and that’s what it will be – I will actually lose money on the shipping for the most part, but I wanted to keep it as low as possible. Preorders for our first two CDs can begin as soon as the site goes “live,” and preorders will be very helpful, especially in the early stages of our new label. Stay tuned on the site and I will announce in a post exactly when it’s up and running. For AOL users, the new site may not show up for a day or two, because AOL caches website pages, and updates them on some weird timetable. But, you can always use Internet Explorer to view the site. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Last night, I watched two count them two DVDs. The first DVD I watched was the original pilot for Tabitha, in which my very own self plays brother Adam. I haven’t seen this pilot since it was aired in the fall of 1976. It was fascinating to see it. I had absolutely no memory of any of the scenes or lines. I was happy to see I was second billed, and I thought I looked fine, and there were even a couple of amusing moments. The show itself was pretty bad. It had a very corny script, and, as much as I like Archie Hahn, a leading man he isn’t. But, the real problem is Liberty Williams, a really nice gal, who was really not right for the part. I much prefer the dynamic between our Adam and Tabitha, than the one that ended up in the series. Also, I remember when this show went on the air, and I remember, for some reason, that the network went out of their way to act as if it were a big hit, and I even think they aired it in spurts, to make it appear as if it were a full season. I know, I thought the show lasted at least two seasons, and I’m sure that’s what they wanted everyone to think. I don’t know anyone who was really aware that the series only made twelve episodes. In any case, it was fun to see, and I must say the transfer was luscious. Oh, and one thing I did remember is that I really liked Maria O’Brien – I remember we just hit it off really well. Maria, for those who don’t know, is the daughter of Edmund O’Brien and Olga San Juan. And I adored Arnold Soboloff, who played the cab driver. I then watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. I’d never seen it, although I knew it had something of a cult following. Well, what doesn’t? I’m sorry to say that it’s one of the most pathetically bad movies I’ve ever seen. There is a documentary (really bad) included in the extras, and to listen to the director, and Peter Fonda, and Susan George, you’d have thought this film was right up there with Gone With The Wind. Grainy transfer, as it should be, since this is one of those early 70s films which reveled in its grain.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, so I can think lovely thoughts and hopefully avoid getting full-blown sick. And, if you think lovely thoughts, sometimes you get lovely goodies, and I think we all know that I love getting lovely goodies.

Lovely goodies, I tell you – that’s the ticket. Today, at some point, I’m supposed to pick up the new book for proofing. I’m also having dinner with Miss Tammy Minoff and her mother. Other than that, I shall, of course, make sure the website is ready to go “live,” and I shall, of course, finish the short story I’ve been working on. I also have to still figure out who will play the third character in the “official” reading on my play.

Have I forgotten to mention that it’s Friday? Another week gone by like a gazelle with raging hormones. I mean, tomorrow is Saturday, for heaven’s sake – I’ve got to come up with another Unseemly Trivia Contest.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, finish my short story, I must keep my spirits on high so as to try to avoid getting full-blown sick, I must hopefully pick up some lovely goodies, I must dine, and I must launch our brand spanking new Kritzerland website. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, a Martha Tilton compilation, and a Japanese import of Wes Montgomery’s masterpiece of an album, A Day in the Life. DVD, Kansas City Bomber. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and load them with loads of lovely goodies, won’t you?
