ALL SHOOK UP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I feel like doing something new and different with the ntoes today. For example, I feel like spelling “notes” “ntoes,” just because I can. So, today we shall have BK’s Ntoes. I feel we must shake up these here ntoes because, frankly, they were beginning to have a sameness about them, rather like a gazelle paying a visit to Kinko’s. I feel we need to be bold, we need new directions like go south instead of north, turn right instead of left, go the end of the cul-de-sac and sit there and count your fingers, little girl blue. I was thinking about writing the notes in gaily-colored crayon, but it just made my computer screen very silly-looking. Perhaps if I have some fun with spacing, that will shake things up.
Perhaps if
I put interesting spaces
and breaks in lines thatwillbeinteresting?
Perhaps not. I just feel we’ve got to jazz these here notes up. We’ve got to Dave Brubeck these notes, we’ve got to Oscar Peterson these notes, we’ve got to Wes Montgomery these notes. We’ve got to snazzy up these notes. Yes, Virginia, first we jazz then we snazz. Perhaps we could all do the Shipoopi whilst reading the notes. Perhaps we could all sing the score to Whoop Up whilst reading the notes. Perhaps we could all recreate the original Michael Bennett choreography to Turkey Lurky Time whilst we read the notes. You know, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m going on about, please enlighten me because I certainly have no clew as to what the HELL I’m going on about.

Last night I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Night Moves, starring Mr. Gene Hackman, and directed by Mr. Arthur Penn. Night Moves is not a great movie, but it’s one of those ’70s movies that’s just fun to watch in a way that movies aren’t fun to watch these days. It’s heavy on the dialogue and plot, it’s slow moving, but it’s shot well, has an excellent score by the vastly underappreciated Michael Small, and, although it doesn’t add up to much, it’s quite entertaining. It also features a very young James Woods, an even younger Melanie Griffith (who is heartbreakingly cute – what she has done to herself is criminal), and a young Dennis Dugan in a bit part. It also features Jennifer Warren (a strange actress who I’ve never cottoned to, or even silked to), Harris Yulin in a thankless role, and Susan Clark. There’s a bit of violence, quite a bit of nudity, and a few splendid shots of 1975 LA and Burbank (in 1975 the multiplexes hadn’t taken over the world – movie theaters were still single houses, and they were everywhere – in Night Moves we see two of my favorites, both of them long since gone and both in Burbank – the Cornell and the Magnolia). Transfer is excellent and replicates the occasionally grainy and filtered look of the film perfectly.

What am I, Ebert and Roeper all of a sudden? Shouldn’t I be shaking the notes up? Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below so we can continue to reinvent the wheel and shake things up here at haineshisway.com in these here ntoes.

I tell you, we are shakin’ the jernt. We’re all shook up. We’re shakin’ the blues away. Shake, rattle, and roll, baby – that’s what I’M talkin’ about. I am so jiggy with being all shook up, aren’t you?

Yesterday (normally I talk about yesterday in the first section – we really ARE shakin’ the jernt up), I had one of those days where I just did a bunch of stuff, but not really. I finished the final fixes on the galley, and it’s now in the hands of the publishers. I went on Mr. Toad’s Tape Hunt and came up empty. I went to my storage facility and found the lyrics and a tape of the song we’ll be adding to the Stages CD, but I never did find the actual music. I picked up packages and shipped packages. I unloaded the seven boxes of priority flat rate envelopes, which is going to be our test mode of shipping these initial releases. And, I ate a couple of tuna sandwiches which were quite yummilicious. It was nice to have a day off from rehearsing, and we’ll be resuming our run-throughs this very evening. I have the whole day to myself, and must deal with various and sundried things at my leisure. I will also write no less than four pages today.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write, I must do errands, I must travel about in my motor car, I must pick up packages, I must gird my loins for the big CD pickup on Friday, and I must find time to have a bite to eat. Today’s topic of discussion: Let’s shake up the topic, shall we? Let’s jazz up the topic and then snazz up the topic. What is the single longest walk you’ve ever taken – where, why, and how long? Also, the single longest car journey, and the single longest bike ride. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as we continue to shake things up here at haineshisway.com.
