July 11, 2005:

THE ORGANIZED MAN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is the start of a very busy week. Furthermore, it is almost the middle of July – how in tarnation did THAT happen? This is our final week of rehearsals for Mr. Kevin Spirtas’ one-man show. We’ll be working seven days in a row, and then the show is next Monday and Tuesday. I also have tons of other stuff to do, as well. I’m hoping we’re still on track to have discs by Friday, and if that’s to be the case, then the fellow who’s helping with the shipping will come over in the afternoon and on Saturday to package all the orders up and get them off to the post office. I also have to begin prepping the next two Kritzerland releases, one of which isn’t quite for certain yet (although I’m sure it will be). I also have to organize things, for I am finding it difficult to find things and to know exactly what must get done every day. This whole thing can get wildly out of control if I am not completely organized every single day. I just wish these days and weeks and months would stop flying by so fast. On the other hand, I haven’t been this energized in ages. I do love juggling a lot of things, so all this stuff, plus trying to keep the short story writing going at a steady clip, just fills up every hour of every day. I must also put the galley of Rewind to bed by Tuesday, so it can get e-mailed to the publisher and they can begin to prepare the book for release by September. I’ve also got to go into the studio to record the bonus track for Stages – I believe the two singers will be our very own Miss Tammy Minoff and Miss Jessica Rush (if she’s available). But, first, I have to go to the storage facility and figure out which box has the music for the song. I think there’s a specific Stages box, but if it’s not in the front, heaven knows how long it will take to find. I wouldn’t even need the music if I could find the cassette tape of the song, but that’s buried in a box that’s in the garage. See what I mean about wildly out of control? We also have to get a contract in the works for yet another album I’m negotiating for, and that one will be a lot of fun should it all work out. And with all of it, I have managed to get a little tan. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Yesterday, after a lovely rehearsal, I managed to watch two count them two motion pictures on DVD. The first motion picture I watched on DVD was entitled Funeral in Berlin, the followup to The Ipcress File, with Michael Caine as Harry Palmer. It’s not as good as Ipcress or its successor, Billion Dollar Brain, but I still found it very quirky and enjoyable, with a strange but oddly likeable score by someone named Konrad Elfers. The anamorphic transfer from Paramount is excellent. I then watched the second motion picture on DVD entitled Georgy Girl. I was quite taken with Georgy Girl on its original release – so taken that I saw it about eight times in its first few weeks of release. It holds up surprisingly well, and the performance of Lynn Redgrave is endearing and wonderful. She gets able support from the always-great James Mason, Charlotte Rampling (beautiful, but stuck with a completely hate-worthy character), and Alan Bates. The script by Peter Nichols, is lots of fun, with some wonderfully colorful dialogue, and the free-wheeling direction is by Silvio Nazzarino (who would go on to direct the wretched-but-fascinating Blue). And then there’s the title song, sung by The Seekers, which is so infectious and tuneful that you can’t get it out of your head. The transfer from Columbia (now Sony) is spotty and way too soft for its own good. This film had really sharp black-and-white photography, with a real brittle sheen to it, and it’s a shame the transfer doesn’t reflect this better.

What am I, Ebert and Roeper all of a sudden? Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get organized right this very minute or things will be wildly out of control.

Tonight I shall be going to a reading of a new musical written by my pals Miss Adryan Russ and Mr. Doug Haverty. It’s in Pasadena at 8:00.

I have to make some CDRs this morning and get them off in the mail (I should have done that a week ago), and I must also go out and buy padded envelopes for shipping. If I don’t get organized, I may need a padded envelope to be taken away in.

Have I mentioned that I need to get organized? I do. I need to be The Organized Man. The Organized Man – that sounds like a Ray Bradbury book, doesn’t it?

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write, I must rehearse, I must be organized, I must find time to eat, and I must attend a reading of a new musical. Today’s topic of discussion: How do you stay organized? Or do you stay organized? Do you have a system? I want details, because perhaps I can glean some good advice. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I attempt to be The Organized Man by Ray Bradbury.
