CHORES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, there are times when beginning these here notes is quite a chore, like taking out the garbage or mopping the floor. I sit here like so much fish thinking, “There are times when beginning these here notes is quite a chore, like taking out the garbage or mopping the floor.” Then, as the hands of the clock move inexorably toward midnight I just start typing away and then I gather momentum and try to barrel through until I actually get a thought in my head. So, I have started typing away and I have gathered momentum (no mean feat), and I am barreling through and yet I don’t have a thought in my head. I hate when that happens. Certainly I can tell you about yesterday. Yesterday, for example, was Friday. There, I have told you about yesterday. Did you know, for example, that I was called to have an impromptu luncheon with Miss Tammy Minoff and her mother? Did you know, for example, that I spent quite a bit of time with my music prep lady, recording and singing the songs she’s got to prep? Did you know, for example, I had other meetings and did other things that took me into the shank of the evening and precluded me from attending a little get-together? There, I have now told you about yesterday. Here is another little tidbit or, at the very least, another little bittid. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t tonight the night when we turn our clocks back one entire hour? If I’m right, let’s all keep reminding each other so that none of us forget. If I’m wrong, then let’s not keep reminding each other, as we’ll all be completely off, time-wise. I tell you, there are times that writing these here notes can be a chore, like taking out the garbage or doing the dishes or dusting the cobwebs or cleaning the pool.

Last night I managed to watch one count them one motion picture on DVD. It was called Farewell Friend, and I don’t really have too much to say about it, other than it was somewhat enjoyable, more than a little annoying, but finally an okay little film. There are so many times in the first hour where you simply don’t know what the HELL is going on, and I almost shut the picture off after that. But, the ending sort of pays everything off. Certainly the two leading actors are always fun to watch – Mr. Alain Delon and Mr. Charles Bronson. Not great, but not bad. The transfer on the region 2 DVD was fine.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I do believe I have a little Unseemly Trivia Contest awaiting those who like to partake of such things. It was a chore to do, but some chores are more fun than others.

All right then – this is a simple little Unseemly Trivia Contest, rather than our more elaborate ones. Here it is:

This hugely unsuccessful musical had a hugely short run. One of its cast members was not really known for musicals, and this cast member would, in fact, go on to have a successful motion picture career in a variety of films including one classic horror chiller. Another one of its cast would go on to win a Tony Award for a hugely successful musical. Another of its cast would also go on to win a Tony Award for another hugely successful musical. And its composer, in addition to writing theater music, was also responsible for a very famous motion picture theme.

Name the hugely unsuccessful musical.

Name the cast member who was not really known for musicals, who would go on to have a successful career in motion pictures, including one classic horror chiller.

Name the two cast members who would go on to win Tony Awards for two different hugely successful musicals.

Name the composer.

Remember: DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS TO THE SITE! Send them to me at bruce@haineshisway.com (don’t worry if you get a bounced e-mail notice – I get them). You have until midnight on Monday to submit your answers. Good luck to one and all and also all and one.

Tonight I shall be attending my 40 year high school reunion. I will definitely have a full and detailed report for you upon my returning. It could go late, so the notes may be up a bit late.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, I must pick up my laundry, I must do some errands, I must see if Teddy can squeeze me in for a haircut (doubtful, but I shall try anyway), and I must ready myself for the big do this evening. Today’s topic of discussion: Tell us about the high school reunions you’ve attended and what it was like, how you felt, and if you thought it was interesting. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and don’t forget to acknowledge whether tonight is indeed the night we change our clocks.
