IAMB WHAT IAMB

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I think that today I shall write these here notes in iambic pentameter, if only I knew what iambic pentameter was. Frankly, I get a headache when I think of iambic pentameter. I looked it up in the dictionary and it said that iambic pentameter is the most common rhythm in English poetry, consisting of five iambs in each line. “The quality of mercy is not strained,” is, for example, an iambic pentameter. First of all, what in tarnation is an iamb? That is just one of the stupidest words I’ve ever seen. Iamb what iamb – I love that song. I don’t know, I really want to write these here notes in iambic pentameter but I just don’t know if I can come up with such pithy bon mots as “The quality of mercy is not strained.” First of all, duh – I know the quality of mercy is not strained. Everyone knows the quality of mercy is minced or, at the very least, chopped, but it’s never strained. Now, another thing is that I don’t see five iambs in “The quality of mercy is not strained.” I don’t see any iambs in that sentence. If one were to have five iambs in each line, then the sentence should read “The quality of iamb mercy iamb is iamb not iamb strained iamb.” Now there are five iambs in that line, and frankly the whole thing makes complete sense now. Speaking of complete sense, does anyone have a clew as to what the HELL I’m going on about? I certainly don’t.

Last night, I watched no motion picture on DVD. But, I did do many things yesterday, and none of them were in iambic pentameter. For example, I got up. Then I did some packing and shipping, and then I did some banking. Then I picked up two count them two packages. Then I attended to many things around the home environment. Then I proofed The Last Starfighter package, and spoke to our very own FJL about said proofing, to make sure we were on the same page. Lucky for me I checked, because I was on page four and he was on page six. But soon we were on the same page and now the final fixes are being made so we can put this puppy to bed. The mastered CD is here (I made one little level change, and the sound is most excellent), and I’m hoping to get everything to the pressing plant by Monday. I then had a rehearsal with Mr. Kevin Spirtas and we worked on specific numbers and it all went very well. I then had to hie myself home for the meeting with my co-director from LACC. We have a big production meeting today with the set and lighting people, so we wanted to make sure we were on the same page. Lucky we had the meeting, because as it turned out he was on page twelve and I was on page thirty-four. We then spoke in iambic pentameter for a while and then he left in search of a Bedouin. That came out of left field, didn’t it? In Search of a Bedouin – that’s the title of my next novel. I then had a meeting with our new casting lady, who’s very bright and with it. She’ll be doing the first set of auditions herself, and then I’ll see the callbacks. I’m very anxious to see what kind of people we’re getting, and we are approaching names for one of the roles. For example, we approached the name Ken for one of the roles. The name Ken seemed to be interested, especially when we told him that the name Gary was also interested. Hopefully, someone with a name will do the play. After the meeting, Tammy, our producer Missy, and Tammy’s mother went to Du-Par’s where we all spoke in iambic pentameter.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, because there will be more pithy bon mots like “The quality of mercy is not strained” coming up in the next section.

Have I mentioned that the quality of mercy is not strained? I must finish these here notes in a hurry because I have fallen behind and they were supposed to be posted already.

Today, for example, I shall be catching up on my short story writing, and then I shall be attending a big production meeting at LACC. I’m looking forward to meeting the tech people, all of whom are new to me. I’ll also be setting up a time to meet with the youngsters that I’ve cast from the department, who’ll be in the opening number that I’ve finally finished writing. I don’t know why it took me so long, but I’m happy it’s done and I’m happy to say the song is completely in iambic pentameter, and the song is just jam-packed with iambs.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write, I must meet, I must eat, and I must meet, I must pick up a package or three, I must do this and that and also that and this, not necessarily in that (or this) order. Today’s topic of discussion: Let’s have a recent movie report – what are the best and worst movies you’ve seen recently, and what are your highest recommendations and why? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and do make certain they are loaded with lovely iambs.
