TURN BACK THE CLOCK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I do hope everyone has turned their fershluganah clocks back, for Daylight Savings Time has officially come to an end. I liked that at two o’clock it was one o’clock. That just tickled my fancy. Have you ever tickled your fancy? If so, was your fancy happy about it? I likes to do what takes my fancy, what takes my fancy I likes to do. What am I, Wildcat all of a sudden? Now, I know what you’re all waiting for so I shall get right to it – my 40th high school reunion. Prior to attending it, Teddy was able to get me in, and he gave me a new do so that I would look quite dashing for the reunion. Basically, that was all I did yesterday until leaving for said reunion. Oh, before I left for said reunion, I did win a fabulously fabulous item on eBay – an ashtray from the Kiru restaurant, which, for those who might not know, was my father’s very own restaurant. The only bidder on the item never had a chance, although I was nervous about him because he’s one of those eBay twits who has to win every ashtray on eBay. In the last month he’s bid on and won hundreds of them, and spent thousands on those hundreds. But my top bid was not beatable, except by a madman, and I happily got it for twenty-nine bucks. After that, I was on my way, with spirits high, driving to the Hills of Woodland. I arrived at six-ten and valet parked at the Hilton Hotel. The first thing one had to do was have one’s photo taken. This particular one will not be purchasing said photo, as this particular one has no interest in said photo. Several nice people came up to me and told me I looked exactly the same – I didn’t really know who they were, but it was fun talking nonetheless. After the photo, I went into the banquet room. I saw several people I knew, and several others that I remembered well and haven’t really seen in forty years. Many people came up to me and said they’d read the Kritzer books and loved them, and that always means so much to me, to see that people enjoyed and were touched by the books.

Others came up to me and said they’d seen me on TV over the years, and asked if I still acted. I filled them in on my life as we know it today. One fellow I hadn’t seen in a while told me he was a sex addict and visited Thailand quite often, as that was the mecca for sex addicts. He asked if I wanted to go – I said I’d think about it. First, I have to become a sex addict. Right now, my only addiction is Diet Coke, and I don’t think Thailand is a necessary trip for that addiction. I had a nice chat with a mutual friend of dear reader Jane and myself – Geri Lowe. At my table, I sat next to Ron Baum, a terrific guy who I always run into at these events – he’s a painter and art restorer here in Los Angeles, and we always have a wonderful time. The food was passable. Some of the people looked quite good, and some looked much older than they should. I saw my pal Ian Praiser, who I’ve stayed in touch with over the years – Ian plays the cameraman in The First Nudie Musical (where he’s erroneously credited as Ian Praise – we talk about that on the commentary track), and he was a writer on many sitcoms, including Taxi. Another gal at our table, Marilyn Moss, is writing a book on Bette Davis. One of my arch nemesis from my high school days was there, but I didn’t see him – just as well, as I probably would have decked him just for the fun of it. I looked quite spiffy in my gray slacks, my blue shirt, and my blue sportcoat, and I ended up enjoying myself more than I thought I would. My plan was to leave early if I was hating it, but I was there for over four hours.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must soon hie myself to downtown Los Angeles quite early this morning to see a run-through of The Drowsy Chaperone. And directly after that, I shall be seeing a local production of City of Angels.

I feel ever so much younger now that the clocks have been turned back one hour. I feel spry and zippy, like a gazelle with a hot foot. Speaking of a gazelle with a hotfoot, I’m going to have to spend most of Monday addressing The Last Starfighter packages, so that should the discs arrive as promised on Tuesday, I’ll be able to ship them right out. This new week is already proving to be booked solid. Of course, I am looking forward to our annual haineshisway.com Halloween night partay, when the spooks and hobgoblins will be in full force. In fact, today I must go and stock up on Halloween candy, because my street is the most popular for trick or treaters to traverse – last year, I just about ran out of candy, and I won’t make that mistake again.

Don’t forget, Donald should have a new radio show up this afternoon, so if you haven’t listened to the Stages show, now’s the time to do so. And don’t forget, you have until tomorrow midnight to submit your answers for our Unseemly Trivia Contest. Thus far, we only have one correct guess.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must attend a run-through, I must attend City of Angels, I must do some grocery shopping, and I must try to write a page or three. Today’s topic of discussion: What was your most memorable Halloween and Halloween costume? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and if you’ve forgotten, turn back the clock one hour.
