YOU KNOW THE DRILL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, you know the drill – I must write these here notes in a hurry because she of the Evil Eye will soon be here and I shall have to hie myself elsewhere for a few hours. Actually, do you know the drill? I only met the drill the other day, and the drill was very nice. Now I know the drill very well, but I was just making a supposition that you knew the drill, too. If you don’t know the drill, do make the drill’s acquaintance, won’t you? Do you know that the drill once got so angry that it struck oil. Oil can be very slimy and frankly the drill had had enough. Does anyone have a clew as to why the HELL I’m writing an entire paragraph about knowing the drill? Speaking of knowing the drill, yesterday was a non-stop day of action, thrills, and excitement, not necessarily in that order. I was up quite early, packaged up some stuff, and then went to the mini-post office and shipped it. Whilst at the mini-post office, I noticed that they were giving flu shots. Normally, I might have found it odd that they were giving flu shots in the mini-post office, but since the mini-post office was located in Long’s Drugstore, it wasn’t odd at all. Now, I’ve never had a flu shot before, and I must say I’m glad I did it as I’ve been hit with the flu quite a few times over the years, during the flu season. It cost twenty-five dollars and there was no wait at all. After that, I went to my music copyist’s home environment, and we did corrections on the two pieces of music she just created sheet music for – mainly note corrections, rhythm corrections, and occasional accompaniment corrections. It took about two hours, and I’m sorry to say I have little patience for this sort of thing, so I was very happy when it was finally over. One of the songs she did was my newly-written opening number for the LACC show, and the other was the Act One finale for my musical of The Comedy of Errors, which is going to close our act one as well. She has one more song to do, which I’ll get next week. I then picked up one count them one package, and came home to have a meeting, which went very well. I then worked for two hours on a parody lyric to Everybody Ought To Have A Maid (Everybody Ought To Take A Class) for the LACC show. It’s pretty good so far, but I’m finding it very difficult because of the way the original lyric scans and because of the song’s built-in two encores. But, I shall finish it by the end of the weekend.

I then met up with our very own Mr. Nick Redman and his pal, and we went over to a local place called Panera, where they had coffee and sweets, and I had a chicken salad sandwich. Just as we were leaving, a pretty girl smiled at me and then waved. It took me a second to recognize her, but it was the daughter of my first girlfriend, whom I hadn’t seen for some six years or so, since my first girlfriend’s funeral. She looked faboo, and it was great to chat with her – we exchanged numbers and we’re going to have a get-together with her sister and brother. When they were all growing up, I was like a surrogate father to them, so it will be fun to have a reunion. After that, Nick and friend and myself went over to the Sportsmen’s Lodge, where Nick and friend had drinks and I had a shrimp cocktail and a Diet Coke. We chatted for quite some time, and then I finally came home, completely zonked. And that was my very long day.

Well, you know the drill – why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep before she of the Evil Eye arrives.

Today I must ship out a few more packages (some to stores, some review copies, and some orders), and I must do some work on my parody lyric, and must also try to write a bit – at some point I’m hoping to sup with our very own Pogue. On Sunday, I’m going to try to do as little as possible, as it will be my last day to get any relaxation in before starting rehearsals for the LACC show, casting for my play, meeting with set and lighting designers for both shows, and starting to write the patter for the LACC show – as well as gathering all the DVDs for our celebrity clip reel, which my pal David Wechter is putting together for me a week from today. I have to go through the various DVDs and pick the clips in advance, so that the editing session can go quickly, and let me tell you, that is a lot of work, which I’ll do mostly in the evenings during the week.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must go hither and thither and perhaps even yon, I must drive about in my motor car for a few hours, and then I must pick up a package or four. Today’s topic of discussion: What upcoming films and shows are you looking forward to – the ones that sound especially intriguing and interesting? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? Of course we shall because frankly, you know the drill.
