January 2, 2006:

FIRMLY ENSCONCED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is already the second of January. Can you believe how fast this year is flying by? Why, just yesterday it was the first day of January, and now it is the second day of January, just like that, just willy-nilly and even nilly-willy. I, for one, had a rather lovely first day of January, what with strolling about the home environment in my lounging pyjamas, my smoking jacket, my leopard-spotted dickie, and my bunny slippers. I didn’t even awaken until eleven-thirty, the latest I’ve slept in years. It was rainy and gray out, which I liked, and I stayed inside where it was toasty and warm. I answered a few e-mails, I paid a visit to Gelson’s and got some foodstuffs from their deli, and I watched motion pictures that I’ve TIVOd over the last few months. I also managed to do a little writing on my short story, which felt very good. If I can keep doing a page or two every day, I’ll be finished with it by the end of the week, and then I can begin the next one. I then went to my neighbor’s home environment for a little New Year’s Day party. The hosts, Mr. Anthony Slide and Mr. Bob Gitt, were charming as always, and the guests were their usual array of interesting folks, such as Norman Lloyd, Curtis Harrington, and others, as well as some neighbors. Cousin Alan was there, although his ever-lovin’ Dee Dee was home sick. I did not stay long, but I had a very good time whilst I was there. I then came back to the home environment, where I sat on my couch like so much fish. And that was my rather lovely first day of January.

Yesterday, I watched three count them three motion pictures that I’ve TIVOd over the last few months. The first motion picture was entitled, Western Union, a wildly entertaining film of Fritz Lang, starring Mr. Randolph Scott, Mr. Robert Young and Mr. Dean Jagger. I’d never seen it before, and it was well-written and very well directed by Mr. Lang, with colorful performances by everyone in its large cast. I then watched the second TIVOd motion picture, which was entitled Man In The Shadow, a Universal Picture from 1957, starring Jeff Chandler, Orson Welles, John Larch, William Schallert and a host of other fine character actors. It was directed by the excellent Jack Arnold. A mere twelve years later, this sort of film would become a staple of the ABC Movie of the Week – in other words, a very good bottom of the bill B-movie. I then watched the third TIVOd motion picture, which was entitled Armored Car Robbery, starring Mr. Charles McGraw and Mr. William Hopper, a crisp little crime drama from 1950, directed by Richard Fleisher. I really enjoyed its terse style and brief running time (just over an hour), and its many location shots of 1950s Los Angeles (including wonderful shots of the front of then-ballpark Wrigley Field – which was located directly across the street from residential homes). All in all, I enjoyed all three motion pictures.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, because this is, after all, the second day of January, and clicking on the Unseemly Button below is what one does on the second day of January.

Did you know that today is an official holiday? Not just a holiday, mind you, but an official holiday. That means no mail, no packages, no bank. So, I shall sit around the home environment like so much fish, until it is time for me to go to rehearsal at seven, at which time my personal official holiday ends. This will be our final rehearsal at our rehearsal space, and I cannot wait until we are firmly ensconced in the El Portal as of tomorrow night. We’ve got a lot of intense work to do between tonight and Friday’s start of tech rehearsals. Pray for Rosemary’s Baby, that’s all I’ve got to say. Still, we’ll be firmly ensconced, and that is a plus in my book (Chapter Nine – Being Firmly Ensconced Is A Plus).

For those who’ve been errant and truant, do catch up on all the notes and posts – we’ve been having a blast around these here parts and you don’t want to miss one cherce word of it.

It’s very rainy here in the City of Studio. The rain is going pitter-patter and also patter-pitter. It’s also quite brisk out, but it’s a pleasant change of pace from all our very warm weather of the last six months.

What am I, the weatherman all of a sudden? I don’t feel I was firmly ensconced in that paragraph at all. I think I was marking time, frankly, and frankly, I don’t think time was all that thrilled that I was marking it. Now time has to wash itself off, which won’t be easy as I was using a pen with black ink.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, relax away the day, eat something fun and interesting, and then be on my way to rehearsal. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Eyetalian food day here at haineshisway.com – what are your all-time favorite Eyetalian restaurants, and what dishes do they serve that are your particular favorites. Of course, everything must be described in loving detail. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s all be firmly ensconced somewhere whilst we’re making them.
