WORDS, WORDS, AND MORE WORDS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because she of the Evil Eye will be here very soon, which means I must hie myself out of here early. I had quite the busy little day yesterday, what with rehearsing with Miss Linda Purl in the morning, attending the Ray Courts show in the afternoon, and then doing a little rewrite on the promos and e-mailing them in, then attending the performance of the play. That was the recap, now here are the details. One must always have the details. Rehearsal with Linda went very well – we ran through the numbers Ron Abel has been working on, and they all sounded splendidly splendid – we made a couple of fixes and that was that. Then Linda headed off to do the Ray Courts show, and I headed off to attend the Ray Courts show. Prior to arriving at the show, I got a call from my Disney exec, who gave me some notes on the promo scripts. They were mostly voiceover notes and a couple of cuts, but it seemed like she was happy with what I’d done, and was especially complementary about a couple of clever voiceovers. I then met up with our very own Mr. Nick Redman, and our friend David Del Valle. We all felt that this was the best lineup of guests that the Courts show has had in ages. However, upon entering, we didn’t find it so for some reason. It actually looked like the same old, same old, and I think that has to do with where the event is held these days. The big attraction, Mr. Richard Chamberlin, didn’t even arrive until about one. I talked to Linda for a bit, then we walked around the room, seeing the likes of Jayne Meadows, Lee Merriwether, John Kerr (looking great), France Nuyen (looking great), George Chakiris (who I talked to for a bit), Candy Clark, Michael Madsen, Barry Williams, Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes, Donnie Dunagan, and others I’m too tired to remember. Tab Hunter will be there today, and I’ll be going back this morning for a few hours. I did make a purchase – a country of origin lobby card from The Rocking Horse Winner, one of my favorite films, and a really beautiful card. I saw some acquaintances and had fun, but it wasn’t quite the show I was expecting. Nick, David, and I lunched at the Daily Grill, which is located in the hotel.

I then went home and did the rewrite, which took a little longer than I thought it would (once you move something to an earlier place, you have to come up with something to replace it with and that is more difficult than you might imagine), but I wrapped it up around five and e-mailed it off. I presume I’ll here more on Monday, but I’m probably going to book my editing sessions for late next week. I then shaved and showered and toddled over to the theater. We had a nice-sized crowd (about two-thirds) and they were a very good audience. Of course, my darling daughter was in attendance (with her friend Skye), as was Sophie Jones, daughter of the Jones’s, who was with two friends. The first act was a little low-energy for my taste, but the audience seemed very with it, and the end of act one went especially well. One problem was with the rain falling outside the window. Rain falls from the beginning of act one to the end of act two. But, sometimes, for reasons I don’t really understand, it gets really loud, and last night it was pretty unbearable. They managed to fix it for act two. Greg was under the weather, but he had friends in the audience and he actually gave his best performance. I put in a new little beat for Tammy last night, and it got quite the nice laugh. After the show, the darling daughter, Skye, and I went over to the Eclectic CafĂ© and supped. My new friend Shannon was working, and we all wished her a very happy birthday. And that was yesterday.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because she of the Evil Eye will be here at any moment and I must beat a hasty retreat before the Evil Eye is cast in my direction.

The best thing about last night was when the darling daughter and Skye came over after we dined. The darling daughter wanted to get some stuff, so she picked up a couple of Nudie Musical DVDs for friends, along with a Stages CD, a copy of Rewind and Writer’s Block (for her grandmother), and Skye got a Writer’s Block as well (she just finished Rewind, which she loved). Now, as you all know, my back has been trying to perpetrate a homicide on me, so Skye, out of the goodness of her heart, massaged my back – she has really strong hands and it was just what the doctor ordered. Then my darling daughter took over and actually managed to crack my back, something no one has been able to do for years. That felt really great. They left, and I, of course, began these here notes.

I’ll be attending the Ray Courts show for a couple of hours this morning, then I’ve got someone coming over to do an afternoon’s worth of work on Kritzerland business. She’s going to take every order we’ve gotten and enter the e-mail addresses into my computer, so I can send out e-mail blasts when we have new releases. Then she’s going to tally all the sales of all our CDs so we can prepare our royalty statements. It will probably take another day or so beyond today to finish, but I’m hoping we’ll get a really good start on it, as I’d like to get the royalty statements out at the end of next week. And then, of course, I shall be attending the evening performance of the play.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do all of the above and more, plus find time to eat some foodstuffs and to return a few telephonic calls. Tomorrow I will return to writing witty and pithy notes, for today’s notes are just facts, ma’am, and nothing but the facts. No style, no humor, no fun, no excruciatingly arch writing – just words, words, and more words. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite collectables that you own, and what was the single greatest find you ever found? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and I shall have a full report on the events of the day upon my return from the Ray Courts show.
