A BAD ACID FLASHBACK OR A DEAD HERRING IN THE MOONLIGHT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week has certainly zoomed by, hasn’t it? It’s already Thursday, and I have no idea where the other days of the week went. They sped by like a gazelle having a bad acid flashback. Speaking of a bad acid flashback, yesterday was rather like a bad acid flashback, wasn’t it? Not that I would know what a bad acid flashback was like, for I have never taken acid or any other drug. In fact, I am a drug virgin, which is more than I can say for the fershluganah gazelle. Where was I? Oh, yes, yesterday. I awoke early, did some stuff around the home environment, and then went to the editing facility. We put the finishing touches on the two promo spots, I updated the scripts, and then we put the spots on the Disney server and I e-mailed the link and the scripts. A few hours later, my executive e-mailed to tell me she was very happy with the spots and that the rest of the people would be seeing them Friday morning, and then we’d get whatever notes they might have. I then caught up on all my shipping. Just what “up” was doing on all my shipping is another story. I then came back, swam, and then got ready to go to dinner at Ivy At The Shore. I also managed to write four pages of my short story. Dinner was incredibly incredible and very expensive. Happily, I’d been given a gift card for two hundred dollars as an opening night gift. I supped with Miss Tammy Minoff – it was sort of our celebration dinner. The food was spectacular and very expensive, but I’ve still got a little bit of money left on the gift card. I then came home and sat on my couch like so much fish, and then, feeling ambitious, I finished the short story. I’m sure I’ll be smoothing out the last six or seven pages, but at least I got the ending down and it seems to work just fine. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

As I posted yesterday, we are officially extending our run into April – four extra weeks, but we’ll only be playing on Friday and Saturday nights. If we’re really selling out every week, we have the option of doing two shows on Saturday – one at seven and one at ten. We shall see how it all goes. If you haven’t paid a visit to the revamped website, do check it out at www.deceittheplay.com.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, because frankly this whole section is beginning to seem like a bad acid flashback or, at the very least, a dead herring in the moonlight.

This morning will be the second day of our musical theater workshop (MTW). Everyone will be telling me what songs they’ve chosen and we’ll be discussing those choices. Then we’re going to study the song I Remember, by my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim. I find the lyric to that song breathtaking, and it’s a wonderful song in terms of its imagery and emotion. It can be interpreted any number of ways and has been. First we’re going to discuss the song itself, the character for whom it is written, and the specificity of the lyric. We’re then going to listen to four different singers interpret the lyric, and then we’ll discuss their different approaches, who we feel captures the imagery and emotion best, why they capture the imagery and emotion best, and whether all the interpretations are valid and work for the song. I think it will be fun and interesting, rather like a bad acid flashback or a dead herring in the moonlight.

I must say I’m a bit overtired right now. And my schedule doesn’t really let up until Saturday. After the workshop, I have to come home and do some writing, and then I have to spend a couple of hours working with Miss Linda Purl, after which I must go to the theater and do a brush-up rehearsal with Matt and Greg – we need to smooth out some edges that have been getting very rough over the last few performances. Then I shall attend the evening performance.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, teach a musical theater workshop (MTW), I must write, I must rehearse, and I must view a play. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could take the haineshisway.com Time Machine back in time to visit any city in the United States at any time, what city would it be, what year would it be, and what would you do with your one day’s visit? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all ponder a bad acid flashback or a dead herring in the moonlight.
