CLEAN AS A WHISTLE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, once again I have arrived home after midnight and must now hurry and scurry to write these here notes in a trice. When I come home this late after having attended a performance and eaten a meal, I have absolutely no thoughts in my head whatsoever, which is not a good thing when you’re trying to write these here notes. In fact, the only thoughts that are in my head are thoughts of toddling off to the bedroom environment so I can get my beauty rest. Speaking of my beauty rest, I didn’t get much of one yesterday. I had to get up early and leave the home environment to rehearse with Miss Linda Purl. That went very well, and then I was able to have the rest of the afternoon to my very own self. That was most pleasurable. First, I finished doing fixes on one of the short stories, which I’m happy to say I’m very pleased with. Then, I did some things that needed doing, and then I toddled off to the theater to see the play. We had a full house and it was a terrific audience. One audience member was seeing the show for his fifth time (yes, Virginia, we have a Deceit groupie) – he brought a friend of his, who enjoyed the show very much. Tammy had one of her best shows, Matt was excellent, and the show went really, really well, especially in the laughs department. After the show, Tammy, Matt and a few of Tammy’s friends and me went over to the Eclectic CafĂ©. We ate, we had liquid refreshment and it was all a lot of fun. Afterwards, I came home and discovered I had absolutely no thoughts in my head whatsoever. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Yesterday, I managed to watch two count them two motion pictures on DVD. The first motion picture on DVD was entitled Julia, starring Miss Jane Fonda and Miss Vanessa Redgrave, along with Mr. Maximillian Schell and Mr. Jason Robards. It’s not a great movie, but it’s a good one, beautifully directed by Fred Zinneman. Miss Redgrave is wonderful as the title character, and Mr. Robards does a terrific job as Dashiell Hammett. As Lillian Hellman, Jane Fonda is fine, but it’s not one of my favorite Fonda performances – I just see the mechanics of it, and I actually found her a bit annoying at times. The lovely score is by Georges Delerue. The transfer is excellent. I then watched the second motion picture on DVD, which was entitled Weekend in Havana, starring Miss Carmen Miranda, Miss Alice Faye, Mr. John Payne, and Mr. Cesar Romero. It’s quite a silly but fun little musical film, and Miss Miranda is a complete delight. The transfer is fantastic – one of the best-looking transfers of a three-strip Technicolor film that I’ve seen. The colors are vibrant and saturated, as they should be, and the source material is clean as a whistle. Are whistles really clean? Who made up that expression? Whistles aren’t clean. Whistles have mouth prints and saliva and are not clean, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because the reality is that I have absolutely no thoughts in my head whatsoever, so the sooner we end this section, the better for all of us.

This section will be brief. I am stating that right up front. This section will be brief because I have absolutely no thoughts in my head whatsoever. The inside of my head, where thoughts would normally reside, is clean as a dirty saliva-ridden whistle.

Today I shall write at least five or six pages of the musical. That is my goal. I may or may not attend the matinee (my instinct is that I won’t). I basically want to relax and get ready for the busy week ahead. I do have to figure out what we’re doing in Tuesday’s class, and I actually have to project ahead so the student’s know when things will be happening. This week I’ll be working with Miss Linda Purl, I’ll be finishing up the two promo spots, and I’ll be writing a musical comedy.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, toddle off to the bedroom environment for my beauty sleep, which I really need, and then I must arise, greet the day (“Hello, day”) and lounge about in my smoking jacket (I keep trying to get my jacket to give up smoking – nasty habit, you know), my lounging pyjamas, my leopard-spotted dickie, and my bunny slippers. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Sunday, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely posts as we make our way to our brand spanking new plateau.
