DAY AND NIGHT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is Saturday, and I, for one, say hoo and ray. How come I never say ray and hoo? Being that it is Saturday, I have no pressing engagements other than attending the evening performance. Have you ever thought of this: Saturday is a fine name for the day part of Saturday, but shouldn’t the evening part of Saturday be called Saturnight? Why are all the days of the week only good for the day part? I think we should have two names per day, one day and one evening. What do you think of that idea? That way, we can not only have Monday, we can also have Monnight. We can have Wednesday and Wednesnight. I’m liking this idea very much, aren’t you? Has anyone noticed that I have lost the point? The point has gone missing and I’m quite certain there was a point when I began these here notes. Oh, yes, it’s Saturday and I have no pressing engagements other than seeing the Saturnight performance of the play. Speaking of the play, I had quite a long day yesterday. I got up at seven, attended to some things around the home environment, then got ready to go to my editing session. The session was very pleasant, and once we actually began putting the spot together at around two, it really went very fast and we almost finished a rough version. My editor and I are on the same page (no mean feat) and he has a very good sense of picture, rhythm, and music, not necessarily in that order. We worked from ten until six, and will do the same come Monday. I have a hold on another half-day on Wednesday, should we need it. I then came home briefly and then headed over to the theater. We had an almost full house and a very receptive audience. We had a terrific act one and a slightly less than terrific act two, for various reasons. I knew a couple of people in the audience, and we also had one gentleman who had seen and loved What If. After the show, I came directly home, as I was very tired and needing to sit on my couch like so much fish. And that was my Friday and Frinight.

Yesterday, I also managed to watch the second Barbra Streisand special, Color Me Barbra. For me, Color Me Barbra was a step down from My Name Is Barbra. The first act is a bit pretentious (in the art gallery) and only occasionally does it catch fire. The second act (the circus set) has its moments, but basically comes off as very strange. It does, however, include the wonderful Have I Stayed Too Long At The Fair, by my pal Mr. Billy Barnes. The third act (the concert section) is glorious, because Barbra just stands and sings, and at that point in her career she could sing the phone book and it would be high art. So, unlike the perfection of the first special, this one is a decidedly mixed bag. I’m now looking forward to the concert in Central Park, which I’ll watch today.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because despite my not having any pressing engagements, I do have places to go, people to see, and things to do, not necessarily in that order.

So, what shall I be doing today? Why, I shall be doing errands, I shall be doing banking, I shall be trading in a whole mess o’ DVDs that I no longer wish to have, I shall be picking up a package or three, and I shall be shipping a package or three. Other than that, I will be sitting on my couch like so much fish until the Saturnight performance of the play.

Oh, the other thing I’ll be doing both today and tomorrow is planning out the first few weeks of the musical theater workshop, so that I know what I’m doing. I’ll also be writing a bit of my short story and a bit of the musical. But, I shall be doing all of the above at my leisure, and that’s the way I like it, baby.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do everything I’ve mentioned and more and I must even find time to eat a foodstuff or two. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s favorite plays and musicals quotes – what are your all-time favorite classic lines from plays and books of musicals? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s keep them going all of Saturday and Saturnight.
