DUMBFOUNDED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is already the middle of February and I, for one, am dumbfounded. Yes, Virginia, I, for one, am dumbfounded that it is already the middle of February, because last time I looked it was the beginning of February. In any case, it’s the middle of February, a time to be dumbfounded. I do not like that word “dumbfounded.” That word makes no sense. I understand what the word “dumb” means, and I understand what the word “founded” means, and since they have nothing whatsoever to do with each other, what cretin put them together, made a word out of them, and thought they could get away with it? Just the thought of such chicanery leaves me dumbfounded. Not that chicanery is so much better. Where was I? Oh, yes, the middle of February. I have lots to do today, so I’d better get to the point. Speaking of the point, yesterday had one, but I can’t remember what it was. Oh, yes, it was Valentine’s Day, a day for sweethearts and kissing and fondling and doing. I, for one, had no sweetheart, did no kissing, and therefore fondling and doing were completely nonexistent around these here parts. I did get some candy from various and sundried folks, and that was very nice. Also very nice was our third class in the musical theater workshop (MTW), and I’m really enjoying myself, and like several of the students a lot – they are very bright, attentive, and best of all, they are using their ears. I’m really looking forward to next week, when we begin to sing. After the class, Miss Tammy Minoff and fellow class member and friend Lauren and I went to the House of Pies and ate lunch. After that, I had to hie myself back to the Valley to do some errands and whatnot. I then wrote four pages of the new musical, had several telephonic conversations, and finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched several more excellent episodes from season two of Superman. One episode was clearly shot on location, but I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what neighborhood they were in. Does anyone know where they actually shot the show – what studio? Anyway, I’m enjoying these episodes thoroughly. I’d assumed I’d seen every episode of the show over the years, but that has proven not to be the case. I’ve already seen two that were completely new to me.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, whilst we all contemplate how dumb the person who founded the word dumbfounded was. That person’s name, I have just found out, was Mr. Henry Black. Before achieving some sort of immortality for creating the word “dumbfounded” he was previously in vaudeville with his partner Milton Blue. They were, of course, known as Black and Blue and they were quite popular. Perhaps someone here can quote some of their famous bits, especially their beloved routine, Where’s The Seltzer?

Oy and vey, what a day I have today. It begins at ten, when I go to the editing facility, make two brief little fixes to the Disney spots, and then online them. As soon as that’s done, I must join Miss Linda Purl and her musical director, plus songwriter Kirby Tepper for a rehearsal. I think that will last several hours. Then I shall return to the home environment and will attend to some shipping that needs to get done. After that, I shall sit on my couch like so much fish and continue to be dumbfounded. Perhaps I’ll pull out an old 78 I have of Black and Blue doing their famous Where’s The Seltzer routine.

I am in need of the following things: A massage. A haircut. Another massage. Tender Loving Care. Another massage. A Parisienne Cake. A foot rub. Pampering.

If anyone has any of the above lying around, please send it my way, won’t you?

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, edit, online, rehearse, and ship, and also eat and relax and perhaps finish viewing Ryan’s Daughter. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. Let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers, and feel free to also speak of any other things that happen to cross your various and sundried dumbfounded minds.
