EGGPLANT CUTLETS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have no time to dawdle, Amaryllis, because shortly I shall have to be on my way to the musical theater workshop (MTW) and I must have my beauty rest if I’m to be able to be coherent at all. So, I shall dispense with the arch prose and I shall cut to the chase, notes-wise. Here are the notes in a nutshell. Of course, it’s very hard to read notes in a nutshell, especially if there’s a nut in there. Of course, this is haineshisway.com, so we know there are nuts aplenty in the various and sundried nutshells. I do like the idea of notes in a nutshell, don’t you? It’s rather like a gazelle riding a polo pony in the middle of winter. Where was I? Oh, yes, the notes in a nutshell. Yesterday, for example, I got a good eight hours of sleep, then did some things around the home environment whilst managing to relax. Then, I went off to listen to some tapes. While what I heard wasn’t to my liking, we’ve decided that I’ll be getting the multi-track masters and doing a remix from scratch with our very own Vinnie. And, I’m happy to say, that we will then be putting out the release on Kritzerland. And just what is the release? Well, for the last five years, the annual STAGE benefits done here in LA have been recorded but not released, for various reasons. I was called about them, and I said I’d be interested to put them out, as long as I was happy with the sound. Now that we’ll be remixing the first of them, and if we do well, then the others will follow. So, the first release is the Schwartz, Schwartz, and Strouse show from 2000. Schwartz as in Stephen and Arthur. I heard quite a bit of it, and even in bad sound, there are some lovely performances and a good group of people. Vinnie and I are hoping we can make it sound ever so much better. But, there is a real time crunch – they want discs in time for the March concert, which gives us just three weeks to turn the entire thing around, including getting the booklets printed. It can be done, but boy do we have to move quickly. So, we’ll have this and Kevin’s CD up for preorder sometime in the next few weeks. And there is more in the offing that I cannot speak of yet, but that would be lots of fun if it comes to fruition.

After that, I met up with our very own Miss Tammy Minoff, and we went to our favorite Chinese restaurant, Genghis Cohen. We always have a good time, but last night we just had a blast. We laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again. We talked for two hours at the restaurant and it was just really fun. Then we went back to her apartment, and we wrote copious notes about the play and what needs to happen to make the extension work. I was nosing around in her kitchen, getting a Diet Coke, and I noticed in her freezer this package that said Eggplant Cutlets. That just set me off on a laughter frenzy – I don’t know why. I just thought seeing the words Eggplant Cutlets was hilarious. Tammy started laughing because I was laughing and then we couldn’t stop laughing. Eggplant Cutlets – that’s the title of my next novel. And then I looked in her cupboard, which was pretty bare except for some cereal and soup and stuff. There was one seasoning tin – Apple Pie Spice. That made me laugh harder than the Eggplant Cutlets. I don’t know why. Then we were just both howling with laughter over Apple Pie Spice – something I’ve never seen in anyone’s cupboard before. Then we finished our notes and I came home, where I was delighted to see fourteen count them fourteen pages of postings, a veritable frenzy.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst we all ponder Eggplant Cutlets and Apple Pie Spice.

What a busy little day I have today. First there’s the musical theater workshop (MTW). Today people will be singing. I haven’t quite decided how it’s all going to work – whether I’ll give my notes and thoughts after each performance, and then let them sing it right then again, addressing said notes and thoughts, or to let them go off and work on the notes and thoughts and sing in the next class. We shall see. Then I must go back into the editing room and let the editor fix the mess he made, as well as having to notate each shot and its show and time code in the script (something they’ve never done before, but now seem to want). That will probably take two to three hours. Then I’ll come home and sit on my couch like so much fish.

Now wait just a darned minute. Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, let’s dance the Hora and the mambo, because today is the actual birthday of dear reader Matthew. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Matthew. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER MATTHEW!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do all of the above as well as write a musical, and make a bunch of calls to make sure we can turn around the STAGE benefit CD in time. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite frozen foods – entrees, breakfasts, pizzas, Lean Cuisines – tell us everything, and also tell us the first frozen dinner you can remember eating. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we. And don’t forget: Eggplant Cutlets.
