IF WISHES WERE HORSES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, if wishes were horses then beggars would ride. I have no idea why that just popped out like an unwanted watermelon seed but it did. If wishes were horses – what does that MEAN? Isn’t it better if horses were wishes? And who are these beggars and why would they ride a horse that was a wish or, conversely, a wish that was a horse? Well, we’re off to a fine start here at haineshisway.com. And the day is young, which is more than I can say. Oh, well, if wishes were horses then this paragraph would be over very soon. However, before this paragraph can be over I have to speak of things, because that’s what this paragraph has either evolved or devolved to. I must say something like speaking of devolved, yesterday was a day. And do you know what? Yesterday WAS a day. A long day’s journey into night. The day began with my arising from my comfy bed. I then shaved and showered and dragged myself over to LACC for my musical theater workshop. It went swimmingly and for details see yesterday’s postings. After the class, I came home and did some errands, and then Miss Linda Purl came over and we went over all the places we need patter, discussed what said patter should be about, and then she went off to write a rough-up of it, which I’ll then smooth out. We’re really having a good time. I then made ready and toddled over to the theater for the evening’s performance of the play. I was happy to find we had quite a nice house for a Thursday (about half-full), and it was a very responsive audience and the show went very well. We had a little brush-up rehearsal, which did wonders for certain things, and we’ll be doing the same before tonight’s show. We had one audience member who’d seen and loved the show last week, who brought back three of his friends. It was really fun to watch him watching them whenever a twist happened. We’ve actually had a surprising number of return visitors. After the show, I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

I wish I could tell you about a DVD I watched, but the fact is I’ve been trying to slog through the movie Julia, but am only halfway through it. I should have it finished by Saturday, and then I’ll be able to watch some other films.

Well, if wishes were horses we’d all click on the Unseemly Button below, because frankly or even stevely I am done with this section.

I am in need of a massage, but I simply have no time to book one. I have been doing the Jacuzzi thing more than usual, and that, at least, helps my aching back. It just finally hit me the other day how much I’ve been doing over the last two weeks, what with the Disney gig (these two promo spots will be put to bed by next Friday, or at least that’s the plan as of now – I suppose they could hate the spots and I’d have to do a lot of work on them, but given my executive’s happy reaction to them, I’m hoping there won’t be all that many notes and that they’ll be easy to address), starting and planning the musical theater workshop, finishing the short story, resuming writing the musical with David Wechter, and still attending the play and working with Linda Purl, well, it’s been quite fun and quite tiring. I’m not complaining, mind you, oh, no, I am not complaining because I like being busy.

Speaking of busy, today I’ll be at the editing room at ten, where my editor and I will sit like so much fish until we get whatever notes they may have. At that point, we’ll address them as quickly as possible, and put them back on the server for their final approval. Then, next Wednesday we’ll online the spots, and Friday I’ll direct the voiceover session and then mix the audio. And that will be that, I can turn in my invoice, and get paid. Hoo and ray.
After the edit session, I’ll be on my way to the theater for the second brush-up rehearsal and I’ll probably attend the evening show, as I have a friend coming. Perhaps we’ll even go out afterwards.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, edit, I must lunch, I must write, and I must attend the play. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start: CD, Oliver Nelson’s really good 60s soundtrack for Zigzag, and also the two Emily and Alice albums, which I haven’t heard since we did them – I must say, they’re pretty good. DVD, Julia and The Silent Star (First Spaceship on Venus). Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and do remember that if wishes were horses then I’d be a gazelle in Atlantic City.
