THE CLOCK STRUCK TWELVE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the clock has struck twelve and yet the notes aren’t up. The notes aren’t up because I haven’t written them yet. I haven’t written them yet because I was out supping. I was out supping because I was hungry. I was hungry because I’d only eaten some eggs much earlier in the day. My goodness, there’s a nice flow going from one sentence to the next, isn’t there? That almost had style, didn’t it? Of course, the thing I want to know is why the clock struck twelve when twelve didn’t provoke the clock one or even two whits. Are there two Whits? I only know Whit Bissell. It’s getting a little outrĂ© here at haineshisway.com, but that is only because I am overtired. I’m overtired because I have not gotten any sleep. I have not gotten any sleep because I keep going to bed late. I keep going to bed late because I keep supping late. I keep supping late because I enjoy supping late. I could keep this “style” up for hours, but then the clock might continue its history of violence and it might strike one. Yesterday, I had to get up early, leave the home environment, and do errands and whatnot. I got back home at 12:30 after picking up a huge residual check of $36.00. I did some final cleanup work on the revamped short story, and then drove it over to my muse Margaret’s. She read it, thought it worked perfectly, and so I am now officially finished with the short story collection. I am now going to begin the arduous task of trying to figure out a good order for the stories. I imagine its akin to sequencing a CD, which, for me, is one of the most important steps imaginable. I think I know which stories will begin and end the book, but we’ll have to see how it feels. After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish, and then headed off to the theater for last night’s performance. We had a great and vocal audience, but the actor energy was too low, even though the audience still laughed at most things. However, had the actor energy been up they could have gotten laughs that were even bigger. In any case, it was nice to have such a terrific crowd.

Yesterday, I did manage to watch one count them one motion picture on DVD entitled Miracle in Milan, a film of Vittorio De Sica. Mr. De Sica directed at least two films that I would call masterpieces – The Bicycle Thief, and Miracle in Milan. I’ve seen The Bicycle Thief any number of times, but had only seen Miracle in Milan once – when it came out on laserdisc. So, when a region 2 DVD was announced, I snapped it up. The film is completely entrancing – whimsical, funny, touching, brilliantly played and directed, and a total joy from first frame to last. There are so many magical moments in this film, and it’s completely one-off and unique. Plus, it stars my favorite Eyetalian gal of that era – Brunella Bova (who also stars in my favorite Fellini film, The White Sheik). Miss Bova has the most beautiful eyes ever and her sweet smile would light up any city block. The DVD has a recent interview, and even though she’s in her 70s, she’s still quite beautiful and those eyes are still amazing. The DVD transfer is supposedly a restoration of some sort, but whatever source material is being used is quite damaged – still, it looks fine and the film itself is just so wonderful that you don’t even take notice of the source material’s flaws.

What am I, Ebert and Roeper all of a sudden? Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because we still have a chance to avoid the violence of the clock striking one.

I’m happy to announce that I have virtually no plans for today with the sole exception of having to see a Lesbian Musical this afternoon at three. I have, in fact, never seen a Lesbian Musical before, so I have no idea what I’m in for, Lesbian Musical-wise. I will, of course, have a full report upon my return. Otherwise, it’s just going to be a day of sitting on the couch like so much fish, eating reasonable foodstuffs, and watching a DVD or three.

This upcoming week should afford me some relaxation time, too. All I’ve got planned are the two musical theater workshop (MTW) classes, a few errands, and trying to finish up the musical so we can begin to go through and polish it, and then do our first reading of it in the MTW. We’re actually very close to being through – about fifteen more pages or so. And the good news is that I’ve been polishing as we go – moving things around, smoothing out dialogue, and finishing lyrics and songs. I should have the STAGE CDs in by Tuesday or Wednesday, but won’t be shipping them until the Kevin Spirtas CDs arrive.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get some sleep, I must see a Lesbian Musical, I must write, I must watch a DVD or three, and I must do as little as possible. Today’s topic of discussion: What films would you describe as “magical” – those films that just lift your spirits, change your world, and make you feel like a million bucks? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s try to get the clock in to see a therapist to deal with its anger issues.
