TARDY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am tardy. Yes, Virginia, I am tardy because I was in an editing room until 11:30 and have just gotten home. I do not like being tardy (ydrat, spelled backwards), and so I shall write these here notes like the wind. I shall breeze through these here notes like a gazelle who’s leavin’ on a jet plane. So, without further ado – the notes. Yesterday, for example, we had our musical theater workshop (MTW), and we read the second act of our musical. It went very well, had lots of laughs, and the songs seemed to work just fine. I had two minor problems, and I’ll be addressing those with David Wechter on Thursday. They’ll be easy fixes once we’re in agreement about them. After the class, I had to come home and do a lot of shipping, then had to pick up a couple of packages, and by that time it was already three o’clock. I wrote a page-and-a-half, but wished I’d written more. It’s a little bridging scene and for some reason it took me a long time to get a handle on its style and form, which I think I finally found – so, I should be able to finish it today (it’s a short two or three page sequence, which will lead to the final scene of the act). After that, I toddled off to the editing room, where we worked for five solid hours on putting in pickup shots and finessing what we’d already done. We finished all of act one, which is now looking very good and very smooth, and we did two-thirds of act two. The final third has quite a few pickups to insert, however, as the show sort of had a little late second act letdown and we covered those moments directly after the show (missed lines, low energy were the culprits). We only have about an hour of work left, so I’m hoping that will happen this very evening. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

I’m still a bit under the weather, which is most annoying. I hate being a bit under the weather because it slows me down and I do not like to be slowed down. I like to move, baby, and the devil take the hindmost, whatever the HELL that means. If you can be under the weather can you also be over the weather? I do hope I get a decent night’s sleep because I currently look like a 106 year old Jew.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because, after all, I am tardy and I must write like the wind and then some.

Today I am having luncheon with the delightfully delightful Miss Susan Egan. I haven’t seen her in ages so I’m really looking forward to catching up with her. I then hope to write several pages and get into the final scene of act one, and I do have a couple more packages to ship out.

I got an incredibly incredible e-mail forwarded to me last night. I will only say that it regards someone I’ve mentioned in The Real A columns, and perhaps even here at haineshisway.com – a person I never thought I’d find. Well, apparently said person is alive and well and a close friend of said person wrote the e-mail c/o The Real A, and Mr. Mark Bakalor forwarded it to me. I have responded, and am hoping and praying that I will hear from this person. If I do, you will have all the details right here at haineshisway.com.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, I must do errands, I must hope for an e-mail response, I must drive about in my motor car, I must continue on my diet, and I must hopefully finish the editing so that the picture is locked and we can move on to dealing with the sound. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader whatever questions you may like and we get to answer said questions any way we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions, and loads of lovely answers, and loads of lovely postings, and whatever you do, don’t be tardy.
