THE PITH HELMET

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, my blue feeling is gone, and I am feeling chipper and cheerful, not necessarily in that order. I was able to have a nice discussion early in the morning, then I was able to take a nice hot shower and was the blue feeling down the drain. There was a bit of residual blue off and on, but only because I was overtired from sleeping only two hours the night before. Other than the blue feeling, yesterday was somewhat productive – I shipped a bunch of packages, got one of the two errant and truant packages that I’ve been waiting for, and did quite a few errands. Mostly, I thought about this new play (still not quite ready to start typing yet – am going to now name the four characters of the play), and mostly I sat at the piano, practicing the songs from the musical. I then had a lovely dinner with Tammy’s friend Lauren – we went to Musso and Frank, and I had my second great dinner of the week, but did not overindulge and felt quite good afterward. I then came home and had to sit down like so much fish and figure out who in the class is going to read what. That took quite a while, as the ensemble in the show plays all sorts of characters throughout, and I had to assign each and every one of those, plus someone to read the stage directions. And then, of course, I began writing these here notes. I am exhausted however, and so don’t expect anything pithy and witty and gay – just don’t. I can barely see straight. I see fine crooked, but straight is eluding me. When I am overtired, I look like I’m 190 years old. I looked older than the waiters at Musso and Frank, and if you’ve ever been there you know JUST what I’m talking about, baby.

Last night, I watched zero count them zero motion pictures on DVD. I certainly have plenty to watch, but haven’t had time. Tonight I may watch one – I was going to watch Brokeback Mountain, but Tammy asked me to save that so she can come watch it, too. I may watch a Japanese film I’ve never seen that is supposed to be one of the greats. It’s called Twenty-Four Eyes. It won the equivalent of Japan’s Best Picture Oscar over Seven Samurai, so I’m looking forward to it.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below before I fall asleep at the fersluganah keyboard.

Today will be interesting. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, today will be interesting. That is because we will be reading through act one of the new musical in today’s musical theater workshop (MTW). I really wish we could read the whole show today, but we only have an hour and that may not even be enough time to finish act one (hopefully, it will be, and we can go five or ten minutes over). After the reading, I have a short meeting with the head of the department, then I shall come back to the San Fernando Valley and have a meeting with the singer who’s act I’ll be shaping and directing. After that, I’m on my own, and I shall sup and then watch a DVD or three.

Friday, it is my intention to begin writing the first scene of the new play. And Saturday, we transfer all our tapes into the editing system – I’ll probably stop by when that’s happening, just to check out the footage. And I hope to get together with our darling Julieanne Pogue for a lovelier than lovely supper.

I don’t believe there’s one pithy thing in these here notes. Perhaps I should put on a helmet. That would be pithy – a Pith Helmet. Perhaps not.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, attempt to get some sleep, I must have a reading of the new musical, I must meet, eat, and greet, and then I must sit on my couch like so much fish, wearing a Pith Helmet. Today’s topic of discussion: In honor of dear reader Hisaka’s upcoming visit, what are your favorite Japanese films, your favorite Japanese foods, and your favorite Japanese actors? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? We shall.
