THE WEEK THAT FLEW BY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week has just flown by like a gazelle in traction. I must say it’s been a rather tumultuous week, but very good things have come out of it in certain ways, so some of the tumult was worth it. I did get a lot done, I began writing a new play (we’ll see how and where it goes), and we did have a read-through of act one of the new musical. I shipped out a bunch of Kritzerland CDs, and attended to many things that needed attending to. Yesterday, for example, was the day we did the read-through of the new musical. Unfortunately, two students were missing, so a girl had to read one of the guy roles and I had to read a central role, which I really didn’t want to do. Otherwise, for a first read-through with actors who were struggling just to get the words out, it was consistently funny and the act one score seemed to fit just right. Best of all, the characters are good and fun. I’m looking forward to hearing act two, but next week is Spring Break, so we won’t be hearing it until a week from next Tuesday. Directly after that, we start rehearsing and blocking it. After the reading, I went home and had to deal with a lot of telephonic calls and whatnot. I then picked up a package, and then did some errands. I finally spoke to our very own Miss Jessica Skerritt, the actress that MBarnum discovered. She’s now living in Los Angeles, California, USA, and we’re getting together this very afternoon. After all that, I began writing a new play. I hate starting to write things, but it has a funny opening and I’ll just be futzing with the style of the dialogue for a couple of days, just to get the voices in my head and body – once that happens, everything flows more easily. I’ve named two of the four characters and will name the other two when I get to them. I’m hoping it will be a comedy play, a kind of throwback to the comedies of the 60s that I loved. Best of all, I think I have the title already. So, I shall continue with it and try to write every day. I’m also mulling several ideas for what I hope will be a new novel – I’m very anxious to start on something. After writing four pages, I went jogging and whilst jogging, as is usually the case when I’m writing, I got three little ideas to add to the opening I’d written, so when I got back I put those in. And that was my day. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched half a motion picture on DVD, which was entitled The Shoes Of The Fisherman. This is a very long motion picture, and I can’t say that the first half of it is very good. In fact, I’d say it’s a confused mess, with a deadly pace, as if the director were trying to pad things out to a long length so it could be a roadshow film. I shall finish writing about it when I finish the film.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’ve got quite the busy little day today, too.

Have I mentioned that this week flew by like a gazelle in traction? Have you ever seen a gazelle in traction? It’s not a pretty sight.

Today, I shall be doing a little vocal session with our very own Mr. Guy Haines. After that, I meet our very own Miss Jessica Skerritt, and after that I attend a musical entitled Pilgrim, which stars our very own Jessica Rush, and after that, Miss Jessica Rush and I will be going out for a bite to eat.

Tomorrow, I shall leave bright and early, since she of the Evil Eye will be here. I’ll be going to the editing room to watch while the Deceit tapes are digitized into the editing system. Then, come Monday or Tuesday night, we’ll start putting the thing together. The first thing we’ll do is put the actual taping of the show together – the entire performance that we taped. Then, I’ll take that home, decide which pickups we want to use (to replace stuff within the taped performance), and then we’ll insert those into the show. We’re also probably going to “sweeten” some of the sound effects like thunder and rain.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do all of the above, as well as try to write a page or three, and pick up a package or two. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, a two-fer Richard Harris album – his two follow-ups to A Tramp Shining and The Yard Went On Forever. These two are not nearly as successful, and they are, in fact, somewhat of a trial to listen to. DVD, finishing up The Shoes Of The Fisherman, and then moving on to Twenty-Four Eyes, and then I’ll dive into the three Universal collections – Mae West, Carole Lombard, and Marlene Dietrich. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we?
